I've been meaning to mention Tucker & Dale vs. Evil for some time...

Best horror film since 28 Days Later. Spoof or not. This is what Cabin in the Woods should have been.

    Donnie Darko (2001)

I forgot to watch this yesterday haha, I try to always watch it on October 2nd to tie in. I love this movie so much, one of my favorites. Not sure it it's really "horror" but it's definitely got a creepy atmosphere.

Man, I just don't know how you do that. That's 6 movies a day, three days in a row. If the movies are 90 minutes each (and most are a little more), that's at least 9 hours a day.

    Movie #11, around 11:00 PM -
Scarecrows (1988 / directed by William Wesley) - [IMG]

I was wrong: it's not actually one of the worst horror films I've ever seen. In fact, most of my original qualms were false alarms. I mean, the fact that the first 10 minutes (essential in drawing a person into a film) are just stilted, annoying disembodied voices playing hide and seek with each other is about the worst way to start your movie. The cast actually have a lot of personality and the actors are fairly charismatic. Too bad the characters do all the wrong things. I mention this because the scarecrows are not scary, not interesting, and they don't even look that good. The music bites too. So, it half-asses it. There's no great feeling of fear or tension. And only one decent death. But it's a surprisingly smooth watch (after you're set to expect the worst). An episode of Tales from the Crypt 3x too long.

You hoser...of course you liked it...YOU'RE CANADIAN! You lameoids have the same bland sense of humor. Hahaha!

Suck is so corny....not the good kind either. It's the same kind of corny as say,... when you see an old granny dancing to a Lady Gaga song. I mean this is one of those horror movies I could show my Mom, and she would say something like "Oh well now this isn't so bad."

And ALL the songs blow...I've heard edgier material out of another piece of Canadain backwash...Nickleback! HA.

I bought this on the notion that it had Henry Rollins, Alice Cooper and Iggy fucking Pop in it...and I read reviews that Suck was much akin to throwback horror and in the same vein as Trick R Treat or Black Roses....and it is nowhere near those films...like not even in the same ballpark.

P.S. just kidding about all the Canadian negativity...I love Canada. I take a fishing trip up there every spring. Beautiful, I plan to retire there myself. Or Norway.

    Tonight I'll be watching:

Movie marathons are only possible for me when I'm on vacation. Last time I had it planned out with 30 minute breaks between each movie, but I was still seriously struggling to make it through all the movies. I don't think I could manage three days in a row.

    Sorority House Massacre (1986)

Wow, like someone was half-listening to the plot of Halloween and decided to drop it into a sorority setting (actually not a bad idea, ha!). This is all bad, from the acting, music, direction, plot, nudity--wait, that was all right. But really, there are no redemptive qualities here. The villain is the least scariest guy ever. The nude munchkins from The Gate were more threatening.

    11. Ghostwatch (1992) (Dvd)
This scared the living day lights out of me when I first seen this, I was lucky enough to see this live on the bbc and was one of the many who was duped into thinking this was real. First time I have seen this since the original airing and normally when you watch something after a long time it is never as good as remembered but this still scared me after all these years. A precursor to all the ghost hunting shows of the past 10 years and one of inspirations to the Blair witch project. I urge everybody on here who has not seen this to check this out on youtube and find out why this show caused so much controversy in the uk.

    12. Mark Of The Vampire (1935) (dvd)
First time viewing. I had never got round to sending this and did not know about the twist, crazy leaps in logic have to be taken with the plot after the plot twist as what comes before does not make any sense, but a chilling atmosphere and a first class cast more than make up for any shortcomings, nowhere as good as Tod Brownings original Dracula but still very highly recommended.

    13. The Haunted Palace (1963) (blu ray)
First time viewing. It's amazing what a good horror actor and a fog machine can do when faced with a lack of budget. Plenty of gothic atmosphere, good performances all round , especially Vincent Price in a dual role and also great to see Lon Chaney Jr back onscreen , never got round to seeing any of the Price and Corman Poe films and that's the second I've seen this week and have enjoyed both.

    14. Cry of the Banshee (1970) (Dvd)
First time viewing. After house of usher and the haunted palace and being a fan of witchfinder general, I was really disappointed with this film , very uneven plot and a lack of sympathetic characters made this very hard for me to get into.

    Apollo 18 (2011)

After all the negative reviews I was put off seeing this in theaters but my curiosity got the better of me and I figured I'd check this out after Whisperer and before Gravity (which was awesome BTW but does not count for Oct). I'm left wondering if I saw a different movie. Apparently modern horror needs to throw ten screaming cats at you every minute to be called worthy of consideration. I found this simple but well crafted and very entertaining. They get to the moon pretty damn quick and strange things begin happening almost immediately. As something of a moon mission era NASA fan, "ancient aliens" fan and all around conspiracy fan this worked for me. I'm not big on found footage either and I really enjoyed the feel of film and old analog video this had.

It's not the greatest thing ever but it gets the job done. It'd make for some nice padding of a tripple drive-in feature with The Thing.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Beast of Yucca Flats (1961)

"Flag on the Moon, how did it get there?"

    "Progress"

Something of a happy accident that I was home for lunch and the MST3k boxset containing this was out ready for viewing. It's been a LONG time since I've watched this and it was a bit like seeing an old dear friend again. The skits aren't so great on this one but the riffs themselves are top notch.
