    * FINALE *
Its been a long month. To be honest, I'm glad its over. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this October Horror Movie Marathon... but I don't think there is much left in me. I'm going to take a week off horror movies entirely. ;)

Wow that was a long month!! Think I need a break from horror for a while...say a week or so. Anyway, thanks everyone for taking part in this thread and thanks to the mods for providing the contests, polls and other cool stuff.

Anyway here's the totals for the month:

Total movies watched: 137 <--- new record for me :) ...well actually 138. 137 Horror movies and one non-horror.

    First-Time Viewings: 50

First-time viewings I enjoyed the most:
    1. Paranoid Activity - because it creeped me out man!!
    2. One Dark Night Can't believe I hadn't seen this before. Creepy atmosphere and setting but also some cheese. Great stuff!
    3. Burial Ground: Night Of Terror Loved the zombie designs and the strange plot twists.

Mentions: The Cat People (1943), The Body Snatcher, and Eye Of The Beast.

    Least Favourite First-time viewings:
    1. 2001 Maniacs: Field Of Screams Just pure boring crap. Had to force myself to keep watching it.
    2. La Horde Maybe not the worst I saw but due to the hype it was receiving....well it doesn't deserve the hype. It's ok but nothing really interesting.
    3. Lake Placid 3 Makes part 2 look like a good movie...and that's a really scary thought.

Mentions: Cowboy Killer and Horror High

    And that is all....

My actual goal was 70 but I'm happy with the 64 (67 counting TV Episodes) movies I did. 100 seems nearly impossible if you happen to work 9-5, five days a week. I did 100+ last year which was only possible because I was on extended vacation. But even then I had times when I was seriously struggling.
I tip my hat to maskull for managing 134! What's your secret? ;)

    137 man! 137!

well this year we had no overtime at work so it was a lot easier...well easier might not be the right word cause the last two days, I'm not going to lie to you, the going got really difficult. Luckily I'd saved some pretty good films for the end to help me get through. I don't think I can duplicate it again next year though. But we shall see :)

10/31: Halloween (1978), Rocky Horror Picture Show

That's pretty much it for my Halloween viewing, unless you count the "Walking Dead" pilot.

    The end:
    44. Halloween 4
-I love this one ALMOST as much as the original, and think it actually does a better job with the atmosphere of the season. The acting is fantastic, the tension is magnificent, and the kills are the best of the series. The only shortcoming for me is the fact that ther mask is the worst of the series in my opinion.....still an absolute classic!!!....9.5/10.
    45. Halloween
-I went with the Blu-ray this time, and still cannot decide whether I like this one or the Dean approved version better. Without a doubt, when they put out the Cundey colored version on Blu (and you know damn well they will), I'll move that to the top of the list. Anyway, the best horror movie of all time.......10/10.
*I came up 5 short of my goal of 50, but still reached a personal high. I'm a littler bummed that I won't be able to read all of your opinions on these for another year, but it sure was fun! The only movies I wanted to see but will have to put back on the shelf for next year are Trick R Treat and Zombie's Halloween 2. Until next year, my friends......

    57) Deep Red--Highly acclaimed Argento effort offers some fantastic kills, another great score by Goblin, and a very good performance by David Hemmings in the lead. Argento's tremendous audacity in showing the killer's face early in the film is a brilliant maneuver. I've never seen anyone notice it on the first viewing. And when you run back the scene in question you'll be amazed that you missed it. Uncut version runs too long and could have profited from some judicious trims. Still a great ride.

    58) Halloween III: Season Of The Witch--A personal favorite that's found a much larger audience in the past few years. Initially panned by almost everyone, it's now overrated by many. Tremendously enjoyable--but not "good" on any objective scale. Boasts another great electronic Carpenter/Howarth score, great Halloween atmosphere, Dean Cundey's tremendously graceful camera work, a likeable lead performance by Tom Atkins, and a nice villainous turn by Dan O'Herlihy. Other performances are extremely variable. And logic is definitely in short supply. Check out Dick Warlock (The Shape in Halloween II) as one of Cochran's suit-wearing thugs. Love the now famous Silver Shamrock jingle.

    10/31
    59) Dawn Of The Dead (1978)--Easily Romero's best film and one of the greatest horror films of all-time. Commands your attention by throwing you right into the action. But really scores by taking its time establishing strong and nuanced adult characters. Savini's effects are low-tech but extremely effective--particularly during the opening and closing setpieces. Infinitely rewatchable.

    60) Halloween II (1981)--A pale shadow of Carpenter's original. Also one of my favorite films. Suffers from a shortage of Jamie Lee and too much time with cardboard cut-out victims in waiting. And substitutes crass comedy (Amazing Grace...) for Carpenter's gallows humor (Hey Lonnie...). Accurately captures the look of the original (thanks Dean Cundey). And benefits tremendously from Donald Pleasence's over-the-top return as Dr. Loomis and the electronic re-working of Carpenter's iconic score. Pamela Susan Shoop's Nurse Karen provides some welcome eye candy. Dick Warlock's Shape is robotic but mean. Establishes the tradition of outrageously violent kills that would characterize the rest of the series. A fun movie to watch with a bunch of friends and a bunch of booze.

    61) Candyman--One of the best horror movies of the past 20 years. Mixes real and mythical horrors to tremendous effect. Literate and intelligent script puts realistic characters in believable situations. Great performances all-around--especially from Virginia Madsen and Tony Todd. Intense and scary. Bonfire finale contains some unforgettable images that recall the Universal classics of the 30s. Tremendous and appropriately classy score by Philip Glass heightens the emotional impact of several key sequences.

    62) Halloween H20--One of my least favorite films in the original (pre-Zombie) series still has its moments. Mr. Sandman opening in Haddonfield is a classy nod to Halloween II. And that short segment captures some genuine Halloween feeling. Quickly goes off the rails with a terrible title sequence marred by an ill-advised re-imagining of Carpenter's Halloween theme and some terrible voice-overs by a low-rent Donald Pleasence imitator. Middle of the film seems like an amalgamation of the worst aspects of Dawson's Creek and the Scream series. Doesn't get a lot better until the final mano y mano battle between Laurie and The Shape. Still a treat to see Jamie Lee return to the series. Series die-hards can focus on Michael's ever-changing mask. The primary mask was eventually provided by Stan Winston--but not before some footage was shot with the H6 mask and an ineffective original created for H20. A hilariously obvious CGI mask also appears in a short sequence.

Psycho IV: The Beginning was excellent for a TV movie, but that isn't saying much. I didn't hate it, but the film exists to show all the things about Norman I never wanted to know. My own imagination did a better job fleshing out Norman's back sory than Psycho IV. I did enjoy seeing Anthony Perkins, but Henry Thomas' portrayal is down right atrocious. He played young Norman completely subdued with no emotion as if he hadn't even seen the first three films. Everything else about the film was competent enough, but ultimately it was a waste of time. Its been a real treat watching all of the Psycho films this month. What a great series.

April Fool's Day starts off really well. The acting and dialogue are much better than most slashers. One problem, the lack of gore and sleaze left me bored halfway through the film. At that point it was obvious the film was a joke so I was left hoping it would end. Too bad it ran out of steam.

I'm not a creature feature fan so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Brides of Blood. My exposure to 60's horror is very limited so I find it shocking to see a film with 50's ideals filled with so much sleaze. Watching this reminded me a lot of Humanoids From The Deep.

I feel the same way. What kung-fu flicks are you planning on watching this month? Myself I would like to get in:

    The Street Fighter (1974)
    The Bodyguard (1976)
Sister Street Fighter: Hanging by a Thread ( Sister Streetfighter 2 ) (1974)
    Stoner (1974)
    Female Prisoner #701 Scorpion (1972)
    A Life of Ninja (1985)
    When Taekwondo Strikes (1973)

I'd like to watch the Shogun Assassin and Lone Wolf and Cub films, but just today I had my wife buy them for me for Christmas.
