The DVD is great, the movie is shit, but for some odd reason I loved the movie as a kid, which is why I brought it.

I'm off to a pretty slow start due to being away last week and seeing nothing, but I have put in a little time this week to start the ball rolling. So far a few first timers:
*Dark Ride (6.5/10)- a fairly solid slasher with a few nice effects and atmosphere in the ride, but it could have been better
*The Dark (4/10)- some interesting character actors that I generally like, but this one basically was pretty dull
*Carver (9/10)- gore galore in this one, and it was damn entertaining as well.....the nut crunching scene had me flinching big time, which doesn't happen often
    * Brutal Massacre (6/10)- I liked the actors in this and it was fine, but not nearly as funny as I thought it would be

    Campfire Tales
Horror takes a detour deep into the woods in this terrifying cross between 'Scream' and 'Tales From The Crypt', starring Christine Taylor ('Dodgeball') and Ron Livingston ('Office Space').

Returning home from a concert and driving recklessly, four teenagers crash their car on a deserted road. To ward off the cold, they build a fire and wait for help. But the hair-raising stories they tell around the fire put a deeper chill into the night. Each tale is more lurid, more horrifying, more shocking than anything they've heard before. Yet for these unlucky teens in the woods, the biggest shock is still to come...

    My Thoughts:
This is another one I never seen before. Basically just bought it because I really like Anthology horrors... and this one sounded interesting. And I am so happy that I did! I think this movie will rank up there with my top favorite anthology horrors! Not only was all 3 stories suspenseful with great atmosphere... the wrap around story (where anthologies usually loose me) was a really good story in it's own right. I also liked the fact that Glenn Quinn (Roseanne, Angel) was in the last story of the movie. The only thing that I could consider a downfall in this movie would have to be the fact that the first 2 stories are tellings of very well known urban legends... so you fairly quickly know what to expect. But the thing is... these stories are done so well you still enjoy every minute of it. This very well could be my favorite movie of this year's marathon. It will be tough to beat anyway!

10/7- Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer & Confessions of a Serial Killer (VHS)

    [IMG][IMG]

Both are excellent movies on serial killers. One's a controversial classic. The other is very overlooked and forever in Henry's shadow. Henry still manages to disturb after all these years. (That ending...wow!) Rooker's Henry is the kind of dude you can crack open a beer with and shoot the shit. Just don't mention mama or have a hooker over! ;) Confessions suffers from a bad ripoff cover and being released after Henry. The late Robert Burns (the set designer of TCM, The Howling, etc.) plays the killer, "Daniel Ray Hawkins". It treads some of the same ground as Henry, but sticks closer to the story of the real Henry Lee Lucas. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a R1 DVD release of Confessions. Try to find a VHS or a torrent. It'll be worth your time.

Effective little Horror/Thriller about some mute maid in a house with someone murdering people, it's not bad.

I like it, not sure why but I do.

Probably the best of the recent slew of movies based on Serial Killers. Steve Railsback is fantastic as Ed.

Fuck I WISH I had time to watch all these movies. Last 2 movies I watched were for school. Monday was Eisenstein's "Strike" and yesterday was "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari".

Ghost Lake was a god awful movie, but it made me laugh anyway. I have completely forgotten who recommended it to me, but thanks are in order to whoever it was. Smart money is on it being Hellbilly.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death was, as always, excellent.

    The Hand (1981)

This was great! Wow. And directed by Oliver Stone? He took what could have been a schlock-fest and turned it into something more--nice direction, and Michael Caine certainly helped the whole affair. Plus, a little help from Stan Winston (RIP) with "special makeup effects" to round it all out.

I was impressed. And Stone's screenplay managed to predict what would soon happen to 1980s comics, when Lansdale complains that his replacement has turned his comic character into someone who "thinks too much" and asks too many questions. Great insight into the deconstruction of the superhero that would soon follow in the industry with Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns.

This is my 2nd Carpenter flik of the month, and I'm reasonably sure it won't be the last. Seriously, as far as slow, building suspense and atmosphere, this flik is where it's at. Love it more every time I watch it.

Sam and his older brother Michael are all-American teens with all-American interests. But after they move with their mother to peaceful Santa Carla, California, things mysteriously begin to change. Michael's not himself lately. And Mom's not going to like what he's turning into.

    My Thoughts:
Definitely one of my favorite Vampire movies... one I have seen countless times that I never tire of. This movie is the first thing I ever seen Keifer Sutherland in... and I think he did an awesome job in it. I also think Jason Patric did a great job as Michael. and I definitely couldn't help but to enjoy the Old Fart (Grandpa)... I just get such a kick out of him and all the stuffed animals he gave to Sam. Definitely one I would highly recommend to any horror fan... especially vampire fans. Though I do believe most all horror fans probably seen this one by now!

I have Campfire Tales on my uncompleted Amazon order, guess I'll have to order it for sure now. Seems like there is a lot of love for it on here.
