    Monster Dog (1984)

I watched the 16:9 widescreen MGMHD version. Excellent! The film is a wild mix of fun cheese and bad Euro-horror pretending to be American. Alice is cool and the special effects are laughably horrid. Good times [IMG]

Started my October viewing with these two:

Death Curse of Tartu - an archaeologist and his students go to look for indian artifacts at a burial mound in the Florida Everglades. Unfortunately for them, this mound belongs to Tartu, a long-dead medicine man who has the power to shapeshift into various animals from beyond the grave. Inventive and very entertaining film with convincing animal attacks and a desolate, yet appealing setting. There's also some unintentional humor to be had, such as the dude dancing with a stick as if it were a cane. Good ending too, and a scene of Tartu rising out of his tomb makes for a particularly striking image.

Sting of Death - I only watched this one because it came on the same disc as Tartu. Some bonus! I should've just skipped it. Terrible movie with a ridiculous premise, seriously annoying characters and jellyfish that are clearly just plastic bags floating on the water. I also had to sit through another one of those godawful 60's song and dance routines after having just suffered through one recently in the even worse Playgirl Killer. I can't believe that kind of nonsense was actually popular. Yeesh!

This DVD sequel was fairly decent. I didn't mind the remake and this is more of the same. A mother is searching for her daughter in the aftermath of the infection. The only clues are ashes and a pair of scissors. The father is also searching for her. Will this be a heartwarming reunion? The twists are telegraphed a mile away. There's some style to this sequel and some decent shocks. (One poor sap eats his cat.) Feast's John Gulager makes an appearance as a suicide victim. Worth a rental.

How is The Wizard of Gore? I like me my Crispin, and of the Teeny Bopper sect, I always liked Kip n' Bijou.

What the fuck did I just watch? Wow, that was bad! This is the Troll 2 of Canadian horror films! After watching the film, by myself and sober, I can assure you that you need a group of friends and a few cases of beer to really feel the full effect of this film. You're gonna either love it or hate it. I'm still unsure which side of the fence I'm on, I'll need to watch it again with some friends when I'm inebriated to make my final judgement.

I cannot be trusted to rate a movie with that extreme level of Crispin Glover kookiness fairly. Loved it!
