10/1: House, House II: The Second Story
I rolled my eyes when I saw this at the store Tuesday, but the lady wants to see it soon.
John Gulager must be following in his father's acting footsteps. I watched a flick called "He Was A Quiet Man" I got from the library last night (Christian Slater and Elisha Cutbert), and he had a decent size acting role in that as well. I won't diss Feast by any means, but maybe acting is better suited for John than directing.
I'm already so far behind many of ya'll, and have a stack of discs from the library with not-ne'er-nary a horror title in the lot. I have been digging into the Friday the 13th TV series set, too bad there's no "Halloween- the series" to check out.
01. Night of the Living Dead (1968) [w/ cast & crew commentary tracks]
02. White Zombie (1932)
I haven't seen Monster Dog in years. Sure it's worse than I remember, but I've always been a big fan of Alice Cooper. This is the only dvd release I've found online and it's obviously a far cry from 16:9 HD:
This will be the first October that I participate in this.Last night on Oct. 1st. I started off with.................................I have a pretty good selection of movies to watch for the weekend and some of them are new so we will see what happens.I think im gonna have to watch 31 movies this month instead of watch a movie a night for the month.
Oct. 1st. The Burning-No need for any introduction!
Oct. 2nd Inquisicion-This one doesn't hold up to well expect for stunning spanish women.
Oct. 4th Four Fly's on Grey Velvet-I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
Oct. 5th Midnight Meat Train-I really enjoyed this movie even if it did have CGI.
Oct. 7th Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys.-This was the worst movie I have ever seen but I liked it.Go figure.
Oct. 6th Psycho 3-Loved it and loved part 2 equally.
Watched Ghoulies ** and Ghoulies II *
The Blair Witch Project
The Substance DVD has a very bad transfer according to ofdb.de (German language site). They also claim it is cut, which I find hard to believe. There are DVDs from the UK and Italy (Italian language), both in fullscreen only.
Experiencing Monster Dog in 16:9 widescreen was fabulous though
The Tripper - David Arquette's hippie slasher pic. Odd movie... not really good, but hell, I was entertained.
Mutant - revisited this long time fave. Wings Hauser and his bro run afoul creepy toxic mutants in a small southern town. This films just oozes atmosphere, and the mutants are actually pretty unnerving. The bathroom stall scene is one that stuck with me over the years. Wings and Bo Hopkins, who plays the sheriff, would later reunite for a similar tale in the cheesefest, Nightmare at Noon.
1. Shadow Zone: The Undead Express - 4/5
2. Embrace of the Vampire - 2.5/5
3. Fright Night - 4/5
4. The Breed - 2.5/5
5. Crazy Eights - 3/5
6. The Invasion - 4/5
7. The Others - 4/5
8. Lake Dead - 4/5
9. The Willies - 2.5/5
10. Silver Bullet - 4/5
1. Masters of Horror: The V Word - 4.5/5
2. Tales from the Crypt: The Reluctant Vampire - 3.5/5
3. Friday the 13th: The Series: Season 1: The Inheritance - 4/5
Silver Bullet (1985) -the movie I always watch first in October. Love it.
Barracuda - First half of the Drive In Double Feature. Not actually about Barracudas. They just happen to have a few scenes of them attacking swimmers (which are a lot of fun actually). The rest of the movie is about polluting the environment and conspiracies. Kept me interested and a decent conspiracy film, once you get over the fact that the barracudas disappear from the movie 2/3's of the way in.
Island Fury - Second half of the Drive In Double Feature....Pretty lame actually. Some good over-acting and bad guys who are about as scary as a kitten.
Blood Surf (2000) - pretty bad but enjoyable for the first half until the one-liners and puppet croc shots got a little out of hand. Good for a night of cheese though.
Oct1-Gingerdead Man 2 assion Of The Crust
Oct3-Jason Goes to Hell
Oct9-Night Of The Comet, Critters2
Oct10-Jack Frost, The Fly
Oct14-Waxwork, Waxwork II
The Mayhem has begun!!!!
October 1st: The Machine Girl
October 2nd: Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster
machine girl is quite hilarious
He's only in it for a few seconds. Plus, he's in some tighty-whities...not a welcome sight!
10/2- Double dose of Hooper: Lifeforce & Invaders from Mars '86
It's a long way from Chainsaw, but it's a fun ride for this viewer. You're guaranteed a good time with an Golan & Globus production. (Damn, I miss Cannon movies!) Both big budget extravaganzas failed to generate heat at the BO or win over SCI-FI/horror fans. Along with Chainsaw 2, it sealed Hooper's fate for a theatrical movie. Straight to video for him!
Lifeforce is all about Mathilda May. Her titilating performance made all the body jumping/telepathic mumbo jumbo go down easy. The soul sucking zombies were very effective, especially "the space girl's" first victim. This silly romp has gained more fans over the years thanks to cable & video.
Invaders from Mars '86 is a fun remake and easily blows away the original. It features a great cast of genre names and top notch effects from Stan Winston. (Love those goofy ass Drone aliens!) Poor Louise Fletcher! Another bitch on wheels role with an added bonus of swallowing a frog whole. Lifeforce makes a cameo on the TV.
Beaks: The Movie (1987)
Carnivorous doves picking humans to death. Flapping cheese from Mexico with a few well made scenes of suspense. Not as classy as Slugs: The Movie but still ok.
Only at horrordvds my friend, only at horrordvds do you get to read gems like that.
Night 2 and we had my 7-year-old niece over at our place. That said, it severely limited our "viewing slections". In any case :
Movie 2 :
Ya know, it's a pretty fun little flik. Definitely a bitdarker than your average animated kids films. It has a cool story and some great visuals. Not a classic like last night, but a fun movie none-the-less.
This is what I've watched so far...
10/1. Snake Island-2002: **
Snakes on an island, pretty self-explanatory. Typical Sci-Fi Channel crap but it doesn't have a lot of shitty CGI so I guess that's a plus.
10/1. The Brain from Planet Arous-1957: ***
Giant alien brain takes over some idiot and tries to rule the Universe.
10/2. Plan 9 from Outer Space-1959: **1/2
I think we all know about this little gem.
10/2. The Signal-2007: ****1/2
This one surprised the Hell outta me. Wasn't expecting to be as great as it was, the acting was especially fantastic.
10/2. The Ghost Train-1941: *1/2
Shitty British flick about some people stranded at a train station that may be haunted. Has one of the most annoying characters in a movie ever.
10/2. The Most Dangerous Game-1932: ****1/2
Rich guy hunts humans for the fun of it, it's a classic for a reason.
10/2. The Wizard of Gore-1970: ***1/2
H. G. Lewis flick that's a little better than most of the crap he directed, still ain't saying much.
