Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

First-time viewing. This started off so creepy, especially the Tom Atkins love scene. About three-quarters of the way through, once the
    robots
were introduced, I felt like the dread dissipated. I'm still not quite sure how Tom Atkins knew to do what he did--or...what he did, really--but this entry in the Halloween franchise was a unique one.

I'm no fan of Lionsgate new DVD art. I much more prefer this one.

And yeah, it was nice to see Cujo in glorious widescreen :)

Saw II worked just as well for me the second time watching it. Of course it's been a long time so I actually forgot the ending...

Saw III had some good ideas and nice traps but it felt like they were trying a little too hard to be clever. It did actually make me mildly curious about Saw IV though so I guess it must have worked on some level.

The Fathom event thing was ok. The picture quality was very green and the audio was too quiet, but it was fun since I got a bunch of my friends to go along and some of them haven't seen either of these before. It was a good night. :D

I saw the same double feature tonight and thought the same exact thing.

Plus, I wanted to kill some dude who thought it was a wonderful idea to sit around the 1st row, put his huge feet up at screen level and hold his damn mobile up for the world to see in the dark as he texted during nearly all of the first movie. From the middle of the theater, I yelled "PUT THE PHONE AWAY" and he did for a while. He took it out again during intermission and I don't think he used it again after that. Maybe it had something to do with me saying loudly during intermission that I think it's the height of stupidity to pay ten dollars for a double feature and text throughout the entire first movie.

    But... it was fun. :D

    Halloween Horror Film Watch Party!

    The Monster Squad (1987)
Suspiria (1977) [second viewing in October 2007]

A co-worker threw a Halloween party last night and asked me to be in charge of bringing two films: one to make us laugh and one to scare everybody, so I brought the above.

There were about 7 people, none of them had seen either of the films.

The Monster Squad got huge laughs. I mean big. 20 years old and it still kills. Everyone loved Phoebe the Pheeb and cheered for Rudy. Fat Kid's lines got big laughs, too. Van Helsing's thumbs-up made everyone howl. Lots of "Awwws" when Scraps got tossed into Limbo.

Then, the mood changed and we went into Suspiria. It freaked everyone out! 30 years old, man oh man. Argento really knew what he was doing. The seeing-eye-dog attack had the girls squealing and covering their eyes, and everyone leaned forward in their seats during the build-up to the razor-wire surprise.

Great time, great films. Sometimes, you just can't beat the classics. :D

I was planning on watching movies all day today including Halloween and Halloween 2, but I just started a new job this week and am working 8pm-8am. On a plus note, hopefully I can see a few more movies a month or two before they are released as I am working on the DVD screeners they send to the Academy awards.

Hope everyone watches as many horror films they can today and know that I am extremely jealous! Happy Happy Halloween Halloween Halloween, Happy Happy Halloween Silver Shamrock!
