    My Bloody Valentine (1981)

This was the second time I'd watched this film, and I'd forgotten how dumb the plot was.

"The Valentine's Day killer is back and killing our townsfolk!"

"Well, for God's sake! Don't tell anyone!"

I know there are gripes about the cuts in Paramount's version, and they're justified complaints.

_Pi_ Thanks for the nice comments!!! It's always nice to hear from someone who enjoys my work. I hope I've inspired you to watch some more horror, and I hope you return in the future.

A new twist on the werewolf genre? Hardly, but still fun enough. Gorgeous cinematography and visuals.

    1408 (Director's Cut)
    Hell High

The movies were not related at all save I just purchased the DVD for one (1408) and got the other one in from Netflix. Still, even though the movies couldn't have been more different, they both made for quality October viewing. I was happy to see Hell High even had masks for the occasion.

onebyone - how different is the Director's Cut? I've heard that it's several minutes longer and has a different ending? Is it the better cut?

As for myself, I didn't watch any horror today - just Across the Universe for the 2nd time. Loooooooove it!

EDIT: Oh, wait - I just saw your comments on 1408 in that film's thread :p

Scarecrows was just fun! I'm biased towards scarecrows though, so I could more easily forgive the acting and dialogue ("demonic demons" ) and just roll with the straw-fu.

Isolation was Alien on a farm and pretty damn tense. Lots of clinical goopy gory shenanigans in this one, so don't plan on eating any food around it. :eek2:

The Brink (2006) ... was basically a From Beyond remake. Cheap, but had its moments.

Cult (2007) ... was just an excuse for Taryn Manning to show cleavage :D

Lots of fun, kinda of a bad role for Christopher Lee (he's basically just another guy in a monster suit) but Yvonne Furneaux is certainly believable as the kinda girl who could stop a monster's rampage. Peter Cushing's surprisingly good at being picked up and strangled; he put's up an dynamic struggle that sticks out against Lee's slow but strong movies. Cushing and Lee have always been good at stuff like that though, Horror of Dracula being another good example as I love their confrontation in the basement of the house. They stage these things very well between them.

Cushing also has a nice moment at the end playing dumb when trying to provoke the bad guy to make his move. He's very subtle and doesn't give himself away, normally such performances are telegraphed a mile away.

I love this film! Easily my favorite mummy film. Christopher Lee's mummy was so awesome and intimidating in this, especially in the asylum scene. With all the injuries he suffered during the filming, it's amazing that Lee even made it out alive to work on another film. :(
