The '70s. Then the '80s (definitely more so the first half of the 80s than the spotty second). But I'm surprised no one has picked the '60s yet (my 3rd favorite decade).
To me the '50s were more about sci-fi, the '40s were remnants of Universal before WWII hit, and the '30s were Universal. Moving ahead, the '90s were too "postmodern" for their own good, and the jury is still out on the current decade.
There are more classics in the 70s then in any other.
I suppose all of them have their merits(though I think this decade is off to a slow start),I have to go with the 70's.These were the films I was watching growing up and I guess there is some truth to the idea that you like what you grew up with best. The 70s saw the end run of the British gothics, the rise of the American indies, the first horror blockbusters like THE EXCORCIST and JAWS and pointed the way to the 80s slasher boom.Add in some great foreign fare and you have a powerful decade indeed !
I'd have to say the '80s.
I grew up with the movies of the '80s, so they'll always be the best.
it's a toss up for me between the 70's and 80's but i voted for the 80's because of Friday The 13th and those were the movies i grew up with. I really haven't seen enough of the movies pre-1960's so i can't rate them in comparison, but my list goes something like this:
2000's (Ginger Snaps, Shaun, Open Water)
I like everything 80's although the 70's were more groundbreaking and the 60's had some great Vincent Price flicks.
So I guess we are in agreement that the 70's and 80's were the best of times for Horror. Seeing that those two decade have recieved 96% of the votes.
yeah i doubt anyone is surprised by that result. going by the other polls those seem to be the ones that people have the hardest time choosing their favourite film.
two decades of awesomeness!
70s but i picked 80s
Fairly easy for me. 80's then 70's.
What happened to that DVD review amd horror essay competition?
I grew up watching horror in the 80's but have always thought the creepiest films came from the 70's.
I've always thought of the 70's and 80's as the golden age of violent horror.
I picked the 70's because the films were less inhibited, but this was tough.
Wow is this poll ever tight. How did it get so many votes can guests vote on this poll aswell?
Ditto for me. The 70's was the quintessential decade for horror. The 80's weren't far behind.
70's all the way.
