Hitting limited theaters and VOD on February 12th.
Looks the same... only different.
I hope we see a remake of The Babadook soon - I loved that movie.
will probably buy it when it hits dvd/blu-ray it almost looks like a shot for shot remake though ala psycho 98
I don't know who was clamoring for this to be remade. If anything the original film has been swept away with the sands of time as nobody really talks about it anymore. And considering how bad Roth's last two films were I can't see this being any better than the original, even if he is just producing this one.
This looks totally pointless and unneeded.
I saw the original in theaters and loved it. Still love it. I'll be skipping this pointless remake.
Looks nicely shot, to be fair, but why ow why, can't say anything else, looks like it will be the same, another fucking pointless remake.
Remake? Geez... the period of years is getting shorter and shorter. Not many original ideas left out there I guess?
This gotta be the most pointless remake ever...
The same exact thing.
Too bad too- I was initially hoping this would lead to a remake of Spring Fever shortly after. Now that really needs a remake. (Ti West mega blows, even though The Innkeepers was 60% decent.)
I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there. The Innkeepers was extremely well done with terrific chemistry between the two leads. Ti West is very good at building suspense.
Completely agree about the characters. But the film lacked any and all suspense. It was a quirky comedy with absolutely dead scenes of "horror" that were added at the last minute and achieved zero. What I wasn't able to predict just plain sat on the screen.
And that's the guy's only decent movie (excluding The Sacrament, which I just haven't seen yet).
I loved the end. All of the scenes in the basement and the old man were well done imo. The inn is only about an hour away from me. I keep meaning to go for a tour one day. As far as The Sacrament, the actor portraying the "Father" gives a magnificent performance. The story, other characters, etc are decent.
If it weren't being released just days after Southbound, I might give it a rental out of morbid curiosity. But I imagine it'd be little more than me tallying the few differences (Officer Winston now being a woman, etc).
But considering VOD fees are like $6.99, Southbound takes precedence by far. Can't wait for that movie!
I guess, considering this and all, it's pretty damn lucky that Scream remake never happened. I would have lost my cool if I'd lived to see the day someone thought they could shot-by-shot improve upon one of Craven's best films.
In fact, Roth's debut is an important milestone for proof of why even out-goring the 70's and 80's originals doesn't work since fake blood now looks like actual syrup and it didn't before Cabin Fever. No matter what mixture filmmakers use now, if it's "the same stuff they used in Carrie" it will photograph like syrup. But, of course, real blood doesn't look like sap.
I'll pass. The first time out was bad enough!!
I love Roth's Cabin Fever - no interest in the remake
I reckon this is just a kick start to more films - Cabin Fever 3 was awful - I think they just want to grab a new audience.
