Premieres tonight after the Super Bowl, only on NetFlix.
This is a crazy release. Very cool to watch it happen.
Outside of the surprise drop, the movie was yet another sequel barely related to the original. Overproduced garbage. Maybe for people who were not fans of the original.
Granted I missed about 10 minutes of this when I fell asleep but this SEEMED terrible and I could not figure out its full relationship to Cloverfield. Too much exposition, that terrible modern sci-fi "look" and so-so acting. David Oyelowo looked particularly uncomfortable in his role. The one standout scene was the discovery of the crew member in the wall.
Does anyone know if this is a bona-fide Cloverfield sequel or were the connections to Cloverfield added late in production?
It got repurposed. It was originally being produced under the title, God Particle, and has been in the works since 2012.
I was excited until I saw the TV spot and saw how outer space-ey it looked. Not really my thing. I might check it out eventually, but in no rush.
This is the new Hollywood bait and switch. So not only is this another repurposed film that a studio got cold feet on because it's something that is original and istn't supposed to be a sequel, reboot, or be related to any other bankable property (so they repurposed it during production like they did with 10 Cloverfield Lane [which is actually a great movie up until the end where they forcibly tie it to Cloverfield]) but apparently they then pulled the ultimate panic swindle to protect their asses after test screenings weren't coming in hot and made a sizable profit by selling it to Netflix instead of going ahead with the theatrical release it was scheduled for in April: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/h...t-more-50-million-cloverfield-paradox-1082305
Wonder if this will even come to DVD I hope so? I got the clover field and 10 clover field lane DVD double pack at Walmart for 8.96 they also had a new double feature bluray for 14.96.
$50 million + for streaming rights?!
Yeah, if I'm Paramount, I'd probably hit the ceiling jumping on that offer rather than taking a chance on what could be a box office dud, especially if Netflix is covering the advertising costs. That they retain rights to home video and China is just the icing on the cake.
I really like Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane. The new one is pure garbage. A horrible sci-fi comedy. Event Horizon Lite.
it has some cool ideas and a great cast but the story does not flow, badly directed and edited.. bad score.. real mess
I actually watched this last night to see how much of a mess it was, and oooooh boy.... the first half of the movie is hysterically bad and I was laughing out loud on more than one occasion - and that wasn't even at the "jokes" they had peppered in throughout (which weren't funny). It's kinda so-bad-it's-good for that first bit. Everything from plotting to characters to acting is so heavy handed and the stakes that should provide the movie with tension are given away in the first 20 minutes. However the good-bad-fun stops in the second half which just drags on and becomes bland and boring and tedious. And the Cloverfield tie in is so tacked on in this one that the only references/screentime actually amounts to about 5 minutes of material and has no interaction with any of the characters but one and the rest of the film is basically The Asylum's reboot/prequel to Event Horizon. No wonder Paramount dumped this one in the most sleazy Hollywood cash grab way possible.
Enjoyed it as much as Life (2017), which doesn't say much. At least the crew in the flick were less dumb than the one from Covenant !
Life is way better than this in every way.
Considering the stars power of Life, I was expecting something much better.
i was expecting very little from Life but I thought it was pretty damn good, much better than Alien Covenant
Yeah Life was way better than C3/God Particle
