It's going theatrical Oct-Nov and will be out stateside on DVD and Blu Ray early next year.
Seems like a decent flick. I'd like to check it out.
Saw this last night. Imo , probably one of the better zombie films to come out in a long time.
Slow zombie = Scary zombie
Yeah, my blu-ray arrived from the UK this monday and I saw it right away.
Very good horror movie... very effective indeed.
Definitely one of the most engaging horror movies since the turn of the millenium.
There is a sense of mystery to it that is simply but effectively achieved: We never learn exactly how and why the dead are coming back to life, and since most of the movie takes place in on region, we are kept in the dark about how widespread the zombie plague is. All we have for most of the running time is maturely drawn characters cut off from the rest of the world in a situation that has spun out of control. And it works.
The zombies themselves are classic near mindless shamblers, and they are pretty menacing as they slowly amass wherever the protagonists go. There seems to be no end to their numbers, and as such, they are frightening even in broad daylight. That said, there are a few dark scenes in which we are served up some sharp jump scares.
Gore is plentiful and convincingly done, if not as meanspirited as it was in Fulci's Zombie. That movie, I suspect, will always be a favourite with me in the zombie subgenre, but I'm happy to say that The Dead now contends with it over first place.
coming out on feb 14th valentine's day for blu-ray/dvd
Hello all. First post here.
Just got done watching the UK Blu-ray. This movie is fantastic. Palpable feeling that the zombies are EVERYWHERE throughout the film. Kind of like whatever caused Romero's films spread to Africa, though this flick is far superior to any recent Romero sequel.
Kinda cool having it three months before any of my friends here in the States.
The movie is coming out Feb. 14th, but I was making an order from Amazon UK and ordered it from there where the DVD is only $7.50 US. I can't wait to see it!
Review up on the blu:
Finally - a zombie movie worth looking forward to and not just another SyFy/Asylum flavor of the week cartoon. Leave it to the Brits to come up with the good stuff.
My take (and some BD caps):
I dug this a lot, probably the smartest zombie movie I've seen in ages.
looks great got word from a employee friend that walmart stores will have the dvd for 14.96 and blu-ray 19.96 on their release list which is accurate 90% of the time...
Tomorrow night we're giving away a copy of THE DEAD on Blu Ray! Just in time for Valentine's Day! Listen in live at 9pm (EST)! Call in number is 347-633-9019!
Amazon has the Blu-ray for $14.99.
its also in next weeks best buy ad the blu-ray is listed for 16.99 but my bestbuy store is the only store in my state that isnt getting it at all
We are giving a copy away tonight!
The show was great! Excellent chemistry between all of you.
Is this a worthwhile blind buy? I've read some reviews but I'm still not sure about it.
I feel the same way so I'm going to rent it on Vudu next week.
Some of the "political" stuff got a little over bearing, it got a little repetitive after a while and I wasn't a fan of the ending but the zombies were bad ass and some of the night scenes were actually creepy as hell. Overall a decent zombie flick with some serious flaws that hinder but don't kill the film. The location alone made it worth a watch.
