Wow...looks like a job well done. Impressive amount of stuff for a movie of its type. Looking forward to it.

Great review, I'm really psyched for this. I still can't believe it's been given the Criterion treatment.

Agreed. Even though both ARMAGEDDON and THE ROCK got the treatment too (okay, okay, yes I bought THE ROCK! Guilty Pleasure!!!) which will forever haunt them.

I'm on-board for this one, Blind Buy and all!!!

Wow, such praise. Now I am very curious. I have never seen this film and am too apprehensive to blind buy it, given that I just picked up the Criterion of Dazed and Confused. Netflix!

David Allen was one of the best American stop-motion animators, sadly he died some years ago, IMHO he's every bit as good as Harryhausen. I'd love to see a DVD collection of his work, shorts, etc.

Who's says that Criterion is only for French Indy films?

This is the best news I have heard in some time, this film is to Evil Dead what It! The Terror from Beyond Space is to Alien.

Someone please review it for this site :D

I have never seen Criterion discs at Walmart or Target (with the possible exception of The Rock and Armageddon)...Circuit City and/or Best Buy MAY carry them, but probably more likely places like Borders, Barnes and NOble, maybe Tower...definitely online.

The only Criterions I've seen at Wal-Mart are Chasing Amy, The Royal Tenebaumas, and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. There's not a snowflake's chance in hell they'll stock this.

I bought this last night and we watched it this morning. It was pretty good although the effects were a little cheesy and the acting was funny. Overall I'm glad I bought it.

One strange thing though is that we watched the 1970 version on the widescreen set and it looked 1.77 widescreen anamorphic to me. There were no black bars on the sides and the people didn't look stretched. I can usually always tell when the screen is stretched. The dvd player is set correctly and always has been with other movies. As soon as someone else gets it can they post their findings about the 1970 version video?
I'll check out the 1967 version later tonight.

Edit: Ok I went ahead and checked the other version and it is the same way. It is indeed 4x3 though, it's just the disc is not displaying the bars on the sides like they are supposed to do. It looks pretty damned good stretched to fit the widescreen, fooled me anyways.

just finished getting through special features...Was kind of sad to see that Robin Snider (the actress who played "Vicki") was the same Robin Snider who was best friends with Stevie Nicks. It's been mentioned in several interviews with Nicks before, and is also discussed at various websites(although her involvement in the movie is not), but she passed away in 1982 from leukemia pretty much immediately after giving birth. I had wondered why she wasn't included in the cast interviews etc., and I guess that's why.

    R.I.P. Robin. :(

I picked it up at Hastings for $26. It looked to be the only copy they got in stock. It sounds like a sweet release; then again it's Criterion, right?

I saw Equniox many, many years ago when I was younger... and remember little about it now, but I do remember having a great time. Can't wait to see it again!!

I think Michael Bay has some incriminating pictures of the head of Criterion to get TWO of his movies presented by them.:eek1:

I can get it at work for $21, so I avoided it like the plague at Best Buy... They're charging $37 for it!
