If it's anything like the book, omigod... I got the Leisure edition and read it in a day and a half, and the read was so intense that when I was done the book fell apart because of the way I'd been grasping it. Also, I hear the film may have Ellen Paige in it.

I seem to recall another thread about this movie. I still don't know if I can ever watch this one though. After reading the book I felt crushed for days after. God I hate humanity sometimes.

Ellen Paige will be in the one called "an american tragedy" or something like that...
Girl Next Door is based on Ketchum's book... based on that true story though...
I read the book earlier this year... intense stuff... disturbing...

One of the reasons this books works so well is because it's very well written. I'm quite sure they can't translate this to the screen. It'll probably turn out to be another senseles torture movie. I know some of you guys enjoy that kind of stuff, but not me.

Besides, the most desturbing stuff in the book

when the mom forces her own son to rape the girl

will NEVER make it into the movie.

I wouldn't say that she had to force him to do it. He wanted to.
It might be in the movie. They just won't actually show it.
But I agree that it's unlikely this will translate well. Guess it all depends on who they have playing the parts and if the ones that are supposed to be likable are and the ones that aren't, aren't.

From what I have been reading so far about the film. It does a good job of capturing the feel of the book.

Horrorhound will be showing this in november. I'll let you guys know if it comes close to the excellent novel. They had a showing of The Lost at the last con, but I missed it. :( It would be great to see Off Season get an adaptation. Ketchum's books are ripe for the big screen.

  11. This will be a good movie. I read the Leisure paperback and it's one hell of a good book, but very disturbing. Jack Ketchum had said even what you saw in the book was toned down from what he had originally wrote. If you thought this current version was something, guaranteed it's even more so in the original version.

Yes... Ketchum had heard that story some time ago and wrote his own version of it... names changed and everything... but that movie is coming out sometime too... and Girl Next Door... I think American Crime is more told in backstory courtroom stuff... than straight on narrative...

Haven't read Cover yet. What happened to the movie adaptations of Ladies' Night and Red? I haven't found any new news on 'em.

If you all haven't already known, this is out on DVD. Why no one talking about it?

I know I have not been around much lately, but where the hell are all the old school horror buffs at these days?? :(

I did rent it today after coming back from seeing "I am Legend". Plan to see it once if get of this POS computer. :)

Bought this movie Friday after reading about in this months Rue-Morgue(great article by the way) VERY disturbing, not gory at all but what they show is really hard to take in. Ive seen some pretty vile movies and this one just gave me an uneasy feeling. After watching I jumped on the internet to read about the real life case and holy fuck was that lady sick, The woman who played Ruth did one hell of a job. This movie was well directed, well acted but the subject matter was too much for me.

While not as disturbing as the excellent book, this film was very impressive.
