I think there was an article that said the German blu-ray artwork and date was fake, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Here's one of the articles that originally posted the news, but later added an update that says:

According to the Fangoria Web Site Green Inferno has been scraped from its September 5th release date. No new date has been set. This sucks.

Ever since it was announced that this was going theatrical, I kind of figured that a cannibal film getting a wide theatrical release was too good to be true. Guess I was right.

This doesn't surprise me. I think Eli Roth has kind of lost his draw as a director. He made three pretty good horror movies, then decides to take a cue from his buddy Tarantino and take an extended break to pursue other things, like acting and producing (I guess Hemlock Grove sorta counts as directing), then finally jumps back in the saddle after 5-6 years. Only problem is, he's not Tarantino. He didn't take a break after making Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown and then come back on the scene with a revenge epic like Kill Bill. He took a break after making a low-budget gross-out horror-comedy and two flicks that ride the line of torture-porn. Then he tries to make a comeback with a film that is basically a love-letter to a subgenre that a very small percentage of the filmgoing world even knows is a thing. There just doesn't seem, at least to me, enough incentive there for a studio to really get behind this.

That being said, I still want to see this really bad and I am bummed it's shelved.

It's a little strange, it was due in UK cinema's and was given a UK certificate in June, so I was expecting is around July/August, the date now noted for release on the BBFC website is 23/01/15. Interesting!

Maybe he is converting the film to 3D. Kidding. Whatever the hold up, I hope it won't be another case of Mandy Lane.

This setback is not a good sign at all. Either the studio is going to dump it in theaters around January or just release it straight to DVD. I have a huge concern it will be the latter of the two.

I did not find that it translates well to the big screen. It is cheaply shot and should just be called Eli Roth to summarize why anyone should watch it. If I could go back in time...

Really? I thought it was the most fun I had at TIFF last year.

Edit..I just looked back at your Midnight madness comments and I had completely forgotten you weren't a fan.

Ash28M - I don't know what cameras they used but it looked really bad. Like Canadian tv quality stuff. The one thing I did like was the absence of animal torture. But tv movies even have better acting etc. I just wouldn't recommend spending money to watch this in the best possible way. Definitely not $20 like I did at TIFF. I would have been happier with just watching it, probably not to the end, on Netflix.

More important than that trailer, the link says it's being released to blu-ray, DVD, and VOD in November. Might just be Germany only, but could be sign of things to come for the US...

well according to amazon.de and a few other german retailers, it will be released in germany in november. the fsk website HAS classified it as an 18+over film for dvd/blu, so i'm sure it is going straight to video over there.

The movie looks fun, but I fucking hate the look of cheap digital productions.
They could easily have put a layer of filmgrain on top of it, during post, to at least emulate the look of film. A cannibal movie needs to look dirty and grainy. As it is now, it looks like a porno production :D

Oh well, as long as the movie is entertaining ;)
