Oy vey. What does that trailer prove? I had the same reactions throughout Sex in the City 2.

My GF and I will be there. She gets ridiculously excited for Eli Roth movies. She's convinced that someday, he's going to make THE Great American Horror Film.

I loved it. The only thing I didn't like about it is that, like all of Roth's films, it ends on a punchline. Otherwise, I had a blast. Such a treat to see something like that on the big screen.

Hopefully everyone goes out to support it this weekend. We need more genre films like this on the big screen as opposed to the snoozer PG-13 ghost movies we've been bombarded with over the past few years.

Does it feel like torture porn or is it more enjoyable than that? I don't totally hate those kind of films but some are just depressing and hard to watch. Still, I'm really interested in checkout Roth's new films regardless.

I thought it was pretty good and it didn't feel like torture porn to me. Had a story line and did not rely solely on killing and eating. It was cool to get a throwback film to the days of old, but it was not as dirty or nasty as Cannibal Holocaust. Hopefully people get out to support this, but I went to 8 pm showing and there was only about 15 other people there.

Cheers for the reply. This sounds like it should be a good watch then :)

I didn't find it torture porn-ish either. At least not any more so than the other jungle cannibal flicks. The definition varies to some, which is why I'm kind of waffling on the answer. To me, torture porn is those movies where a person is tied to a chair and cut up for 90 minutes. This has several escape attempts and a playfulness about it. I found it pretty suspenseful, almost harrowing at times, because like several other cannibal films, escape seems almost hopeless.

I thought this was excellent despite obviously not matching up to the gore level of the classic Italian cannibal movies we all remember. It took maybe a little too much time getting to the tribe, but overall I thought this was well worth seeing on the big screen and hopefully an unrated blu will be coming as well! The characters were reasonably well formed and there was a couple of standout sequences in terms of intensity- once we got to the plane crash and the jungle it moved really well. Go see it!!

I believe Roth said the MPAA didn't request any cuts, so the theatrical version is uncut.

Loved this one as well. To be honest, I've been pretty checked out of modern horror - I just don't like all the supernatural or overproduced horror they make these days. INFERNO though is a fun throwback but like Roth's other movies manages to be topical and fun at the same time. Good practical gore by the boyz at KNB and some fun twists and turns along the way. Definitely recommend seeing it in theaters - although like soxfan my theater was pretty empty as well. Seems like Roth can't get a fair shake these days at the box office ever since HOSTEL 2 bombed (partially because of the online leak of the film a week before. no doubt).

Here was my little review from Letterboxd:

Thought it was fairly good retread of a very specific genre. Definitely worth a rental.

Saw it yesterday morning. Including me there was only about 8 people in the audience. Could have been a little bit more in the gore department. Other than that I thought it was pretty good.

There's always hope for Hostel 2. Green Inferno just might take over that spot as Roth's biggest bomb.
