I got flamed the other night because I gave The Mutilator (aka Fall Break) a 4/10 rating. I do like this film as there's some cheese, gore and a 'catchy' theme song :D but let's face it, this one isn't really the greatest slasher ever made ... or am I wrong? Is it worthy the 10?
How would you rate The Mutilator (Unrated Version)?

I found it pretty hilarious, and is definitely worth watching on some level. As far as a horror film goes, I think it rates fairly low. Decent gore (from what I remember) but SO predictable and the fact it gives away the killer's identity so quickly was unforgiveable for me. BUT, it's worth a few yuks, so I'd give it about the same as you...4 out of 10.

I've always really enjoyed it. It's so damn bad and cheesy, yet oddly enjoyable. 7 out of 10. Far from the best Slasher ever made, but also far from the worst. You'll either love it or hate The Mutilator.

I'm content with my Dragon DVD (unrated), The Vipco DVD claims to be unrated, but one scene on that version is actually cut.

I heard that Troma owns the rights in the states, so I doubt there'll ever be a great release when they do put it to DVD...perhaps one of those Triple B-Headers?

I also own the Dragon release. I'd give it a 7/10. I like the gore, and ya gotta love that song! :)

I think it is an ok slasher, but, despite a few good kills, I don't really like it. It is missing humor or real horror or a motive that isn't lame or ...something. It just doesn't quite click with me, which is odd, as I love my slashers. 5/10 for me, and that is being generous.

I saw it a long time ago, when I wasn't very knowledgable on cheese, so perhaps I'm not the best judge, but I gave it a 4/10.

Aw Billy, you know it was more like playful ribbing. :p

A solid 9. I firmly believe this to be one of the best of the slasher crop. It has one hell of a mean streak, not to mention great kills, an interesting setup, amusing characters, a unique setting, and the wonderful theme song. Its certainly grittier and sleazier than most other slashers too, which is a plus. Unlike Billy, I also thought the motive for the killings was one of the better ones I've seen.

I'll go with a 6. I have the Dragon release. That song is just hilarious.

i gave it a 6 it is good but compared to slashers like
    the burning
    intruder
    the prowler
    terror train
friday the 13th series it fails in comparison

Felt more like painful heart ripping :p
Damn, your easy to please ;) I thought the motive was pretty lame, just an excuse for showing off a few over-the-top gory killings. Honestly, there was no mystery or surprises there. It was like, the filmmaker just didn't give a damn. If they at least kept the killer's identity hidden til the end I'd given The Mutilator a higher rating.

You thought the motive was lame?
A kid kills his mother (an accident) and the grief stricken father decides years later to kill his son and his friends staying with him after drinking heavily.

That sounds like just as good a motive as any other slasher.

I thought it was lame because everything was so damn obvious. At least other slashers try to surprise their audience when using a similar motive.
The Mutilator didn't even try a bit.

I give it a 7. The acting is pretty horrid but the gore in it's uncut form is top notch and i have a soft spot for the catchy Fall Break theme song. :D

Everytime this thread pops up I feel the need to pop in my Dragon DVD.

It's nice to have a little variety though, don't you think? ;) Not every slasher needs to be a whodunnit. I still say the motive is better than a lot of the motives I've seen in other slashers. It's uniqueness alone merits it a passing grade.

On another note, the Dragon DVD has the best menu screen ever. I constantly pop in the disc simply to listen as "Fall Break" continuously plays over the menu. :D
