NIGHT SCHOOL was helmed by British director Ken Hughes, who was known for such big budget work as CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG and CROMWELL.Like his contemporary, J. Lee Thompson (who directed HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME but was better known for stuff like THE GUNS OF NAVARONE and the original CAPE FEAR),Hughes was getting older and was looking for a project that would draw a younger audience, the type of films he was known for weren't being made anymore. It ended up being his last feature.Rachel Ward, the leading lady, made her feature debut in this.Within a few years of it's release she made a big splash in THE THORN BIRDS miniseries and the Jeff Bridges/James Woods flick AGAINST ALL ODDS.She was in another slasher too,THE FINAL TERROR.

Thanks Matt89! At least WB won't think I am alone in this slasher cause :)

Paramount did release the film in theatres back in '81 but the film itself is a Lorimar picture (same company that did TV shows like "Knots Landing" and "Falcon Crest" FYI) which WB owns the rights to.

Fingers crossed and spread the word!

Any other 70's and 80's horror classics we should be bugging them for, by the way?

I sent this tweet to them yesterday: "@WarnerArchive Does WB still own the 80s slasher film NIGHT SCHOOL? If so, we need to get that out on The Archive."

This is the response I got today: "@Kolpitz We'll check the Database of All Films when we rouse it from the Vaults on Monday morning."

You young whippersnapper ! Back in the olden days before your fancy "infonet" and "walkman's" we had to learn stuff from books ! Books I tells ya.If we didn't know who directed the latest slasher films we were beaten with a buggy whip. Now stay off my lawn !

Every time a NIGHT SCHOOL thread is revived I come in hoping Warner has finally announced it after teasing several years ago at those HTF chats. It's actually one of the few slashers I haven't seen mostly on account of waiting for the imminent DVD release that seems to never happen. Make it so, WB!

Yeah, I held out as long as I could. A bootleg DVD someone gave me a few years back was starring me right in face late the other night, and I couldn't resist. Same thing with Nightmare earlier that evening - it was a good night :)

Both titles that need a new release. I learned about Night School from Rise and Fall of the slasher film. Come on code red or other dvd distributors!

WB is definitley aware of NIGHT SCHOOL and that it has been requested to be put on on DVD.

All I can say is that you should definitley post requests on Warner Archive's Facebook wall so that they see that its not just a few die-hard fans who want this out. Spread the word.

Yeah, sadly, I think our best bet with Night School and the other remaining slashers and horror flicks that WB has yet to release lies with the Warner Archive collection.

    Better than nothing, I suppose.

Hey Wes - saw you posted on THE WAC Facebook page too. Thanks!!

If you are a fan of this film and you really will buy it on DVD, the only way it will happen is if Warner Bros hears you loud and clear - but not angry. Please post your request on Warner Archive's Facebook wall. Spread the word.

In addition to NIGHT SCHOOL, we should try to get Warner Archive to release TWISTED NERVE from 1968, THE PACK and WELCOME TO ARROW BEACH.

And SCREAM FOR HELP, which I've heard Warner holds the rights for these days.
