THE FIRST REVIEW HAS SURFACED:
Thanks for the review link DD.
Wow they even included an 'animal cruelty free version' on the dvd.
I think SaviniFan is going to be pleased after knowing that piece of information.
That review is wonderful and enough to push this DVD to the top of my "to buy" list. That is, after I buy Land of the Dead and Season of the Witch.
THIS I can watch. I'm gonna try and find one of these now!
That's crap. What's next? Irreversible the Rape-Free version?
Actually I hear that they will later release Dawn of the Dead, zombie Free edition, because those undead guys give me the creeps. So I can finally watch watch it now.
Later they plan on future releases:
King Kong - no gaint apes edition
Aliens - no aliens edition
High Tension - no french actors edition
The Beyond - no scenes that make no sense edition
Friday the 13th - no dead campers edition
The Exorcist - no scary little girl edition
Faces of Death - death free edition
I already have the "animal cruelty free" version. I just look away whenever that stuff comes on the screen.
I wasn't sure if I was going to buy this but I think I will thanks to the extras.
I need that verison!!!
They could always erase the digitized penis. It would serve as an off-beat dry humping session.
sadly it only the opening credits, then it ends.
Diabolik apparently just shipped mine...this sure has been a good year for DVD releases.
So does anyone know if the piranha scene exists? I've heard so much crap about some versions not having it and others saying it was never even filmed.
...good question old-boo. I remember Bruce H. posting here that Sage & Bob found the fabled footage and would be including it on the dvd. Why no mention on the review? Also, if the original negative is missing the clips from the "Last Road to Hell" segment, then how did EC find a complete & flawless cut for their ultra-bit transfer?
That review says:
"There is a brief shot (no pun intended) from a firing squad that's missing, really only a second or two of footage."
There's 8 seconds of footage missing from Italian release. Italian version of Last Road is 1'19" and EC version 1'27".
DVD Compare says 10 seconds but they also have their dated info "This version INCLUDES the short 3 seconds shot from "The Road To Hell" sequence". However their list of two missing shots and one shortened shot is correct.
-Scene showing an execution is missing. (right after the close-up of two men against the wall, shot 1)
-Scene showing an executed, hooded prisoner is missing.(right after the nude male corpse, shot 2)
-Scene showing executed prisoners being loaded on a truck (this scene is included, but shortened a few seconds in the end, shot 3).
I already ordered Grindhouse release but mainly for extras. Both Italian and EC 2-dvd look so good, Grindhouse can't be much better. This will be interesting:
"The alternate cut is included here as well as an extra with some explanations as to the differences between them."
I originally posted this information on the DVD Maniacs forum about two months ago and it stirred up quite a debate over there. I personally think it's a great idea considering that CANNIBAL HOLOCUST probably has the most traumatizing animal cruelty scenes of all the cannibal films. Years after having first seen the movie, I still cannot bring myself to watch the coati-butchering scene.
My DVD Collection
Most recent french films could benefit from that.
Oh, and what about a Necrophagia-free DVD version of CB, BEYOND and LHODES? Naaah, I love them!
