So I just finished watching Genesis & I can't find one good thing to say about it except that atleast it was in focus. Only the first five minutes take place before part 1 all the rest take place in modern day.
Yesterday, I posted this on twitter:
Then, the official Miramax twitter account responded with this:
Here were my two responses:
How has Miramax not heard all of the negative reactions to these Echo Bridge releases? I haven't heard back from them yet but they did start following me on Twitter, so we'll see what their response is. I'll start citing (several) specific titles, if they need them. I'm not sure there's anything they can do at this point but it's nice to know they (may) care.
Kolpitz, could you ask Miramax if Echo Bridge doesn't work out, could they transfer their library of films Echo Bridge has to Anchor Bay?
At this point, given Anchor Bay's recent track record, I'd rather they just give them to Lionsgate.
Be sure to mention H2O wrong ratio, Crow 2 wrong colors, From Dusk Till Dawn bad colors and smoked by the cheap Candian bd. Oh yeah, rated version for stuff like Cursed on dvd when old dvds had unrated. Plus most are 1080i not 1080p. They have to know this one would think, but hit em over the head with it anyway!:fucked:
I would imagine that they have, and that they're just happy to see you tweeting your support for their company. naturally they want to encourage that. its just good brand management. nothing wrong with that, mind you. the fact that they see the value in word of mouth support means they're more likely to pay attention to those words and those mouths. keep it up.
You are awesome. Make sure they know how shit Echo Bridge's releases are.
The thing is even if they loan/sell the right to a different company, how can they be better if miramax/dimension isn't willing to spend the money on decent transfers?
The hope is that if we keep letting them know their transfers are shit and the reason we are staying away in droves, then they will fix their transfers no matter who is doing the discs.
I just have a hard time believing EB has nothing to do with the transfers. So all the shitty ones just happened to go to them? The stuff I've seen that Lions Gate has released from Miramax all look great, and every EB has had some issue or 10. Maybe it's because EB is a budget company, but they are around the same price range as LG who has awesome looking discs with all the features ported over, in correct ratios without new colors. I just can't imagine this is all on Miramax, but if it is hopefully this bitching helps.
I hope you're right...
Aren't the masters prepped by the company doing the release (Echo Bridge or Lionsgate)? I imagine the whole point of Miramax leasing the rights to an outside company is to spare them the expense of remastering the films themselves. That way, they make guaranteed profit on licensing fees w/o making any real investment themselves; the risk of the discs selling or not is absorbed by the licensor / releasing company. Lionsgate is doing some good work w/ their titles (such as the Scream Trilogy) while EB is doing what they've always done: Quickly dumping shit product directly into K-mart bargain bins to sell fast and cheap w/ as little effort on their part as possible.
Looks like there is a Hellraiser Collection at K-mart for $7.50 as well. It has 3 through 8 on two discs.
Is that on blu or dvd?
Damn would've been interested if it had been Blu.
Weinstein Co. Bankruptcy Threat or Sale Looms as Leadership Divided Over Fate of Company
It sure sounds like they're fucked.
Any bets on who'll grab up their catalog?
I thought lionsgate had a lot of the dimension titles. Just got the 4 year delayed Weinstein film Demonic on DVD at Walmart it was pretty cool film. I am looking forward to the other long delayed Amityville Awakening on DVD bluray Nov 14. Hopefully the film won't get delayed anymore as the trailer is on the Demonic DVD.
You can watch Amityville for free on Google play.
Yep but the avid DVD/Bluray collector in me needs it on physical disc format Day 1
