The Hollywood Reporter writes: Director Mark Romanek has been hired to bring "The Wolfman" to the big screen. Scott Stuber and Mary Parent are producing the remake of the classic Universal Studios monster, which has Benicio Del Toro attached to star. Del Toro also is on board as a producer with Rick Yorn. The movie will hew to the period pedigree of the 1941 original, in which a man returns from the U.S. to his ancestral home in Victorian-era Great Britain, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence. Andrew Kevin Walker wrote the screenplay. A fall start is being planned. "Mark has a great love and knowledge of film," Stuber said. "He's a great and authentic storyteller. He looks for the truth in the characters, the scenes and in the set design. It's going to be exciting to see what he brings to the horror genre." Music video helmer Romanek, who directed the Weezer video "El Scorcho" and Johnny Cash's "Trust," wrote and directed "One Hour Photo." He is repped by Endeavor and Anonymous Content.
We've had so many variations of the Werewolf film, and this wasn't the first. So surely no-one will be bothered by this? Of course, there's a fear that the transformation scenes will be overly CGI in nature - but otherwise, great great news.
The thought of over-the-top CGI transformations makes me cringe :nervous: . As long as this remake is kept as far as possible from a Brendan Fraser Mummy film or Van Helsing style shitfest, it could work. I approve of the casting selection. I like Benicio a lot as an actor.
"Look at diss hair growin' on my fuckin' face you fuckin' cocksucker, whad da fuck?!" (Fenster voice)
Bloody-Disgusting UPDATE Universal Pictures' remake of The Wolfman is prepping for a December shoot to keep it on mark for it's November 14, 2008 release. Mark Romanek is set to direct off a script by Andrew Kevin Walker. Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.
"...music video director..." Oh for fucks sake - this is more of a negative than a positive going on previous experience.
So One Hour Photo is director Romanek's only feature film? I don't think this is the best guy for the job either.
