The Annual October Movie Watching Thread!!!!! I thought I'd get this sucker up as a companion to the The Annual October Movie Watching Pre-Talk Thread. Once again the greatest month of all time is approaching (yay!) and once again we need a thread so we can brag about which horror movies we've watched, how many we've watched over the month, which movies we've loved/hated, and maybe get some excellent recommendations on movies we'd never heard of before. I don't give a damn about non-horror flicks so don't post them in this thread! Anyway let the fun start...in a few days.
Well this year a must is TRICK 'R TREAT, that is quickly becoming a holiday must from now on. The usual will follow, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS, THE MIDNIGHT HOUR, HALLOWEEN (Original), NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990), TALES FROM THE CRYPT PRESENTS: DEMON KNIGHT, SUSPIRIA, DEMONS, NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD... And of course for my theatrical October experience this year, I'll be seeing ZOMBIE LAND! Whoot.
I'm foaming at the mouth to get going on this, and will probably start tomorrow night to get just a bit of a head start. I have Albino Farm rented out form Ballbuster, so that may start the proceedings. I am going to try to stick with movies I own that I've been saving for the majority of the month, although there will be some Netflix and Blockbuster rentals sprinkled in there. I know I will have to rent Farmhouse, Hills Run Red (although I am still very pissed at the news of Warner's apparent new "no unrated" policy, and they will not be getting a single buy from me until this is changed), Sauna, Book of Blood, Haunted World of El Superbeasto, The Shortcut, Haunting of Winchester House (in startling 3D!!), Gnaw, Wrong Turn 3 (although I am not that excited for this one as apparently it is only the one scrawny mutant left to pick off the victims, which makes no sense to me), Offspring, The Children, and Seventh Moon, along with some Ghost Hunters and A Haunting episodes.......well, getting the releases from my personal collection in there may be more challenging than I thought!!!
Oh, and in the theater I've been on a pretty solid roll of catching movies, as I usually go for some very long dry spells...I've seen Halloween 2 (I liked it more than I expected, although hopefully with next year's release we will be going back to a more traditional route for the series), Final Destination 3D (solid effects, but such a non-story that it was still disappointing), Pandorum (I have to admit I really didn't like this at all and can't understand what some people see in it), and Sorority Row (nothing special here, probably would have thought it was fine for a DVD rental). I will be sure to catch at least Saw 6 and possibly Zombieland in October. Trick R Treat will be a Blu-Ray buy, and I hope that I love this one enough to make it an annual must-se affair along with Halloween 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6!!
ahhh...October! i freaking love this time of the year! !!! i got some great movies lined up for the greatest 31 days of the year!
Grace just arrived in the mail via Netflix, so that'll be one of my firsts. Gonna try to watch more first-timers this year, rather than rely on the greatness of my faves. FYI Comcast Users: Fearnet gets a refresh on 10/01. LOVE THIS THREAD!
Fuck I wish I had time to watch some movies this October. I'm working full-time now and I'm also in school full-time so I hardly have any time to do anything anymore. When I'm not at work, I'm at school, when I'm not at school I'm at work. I see on average 4-5 movies a week in my classes so I don't exactly watch many movies at home anymore. I'm just movie'd out by the end of each week. It kinda sucks. ~Matt
I think this month will be a lot of re-watches for me because there are a number of titles I have that I've already seen and wanted to re-watch recently but almost every time I'm about to put one in I tell myself to save it for October so I have a bunch of movies I know will be good. Of course it's not like I won't be buying movies like I do every month as well... :] Hopefully I'll be able to get at least 31 in!
Same here. But All Hallow's Eve as well as Halloween night, ever since I've been past standard issue North American trick-or-treater's age, I'll watch some fine old school Slasher entries mixed in with seminal classics starting at around late 4 O'Clock-ish. But yeah, I've super busy as of late, especially since I'm studying two foreign languages as of now, in order to not just be Anglophonic & monolinguistic. *LMAO* Funniest thing I heard all week to cheer me up. Yeah, I love October too. I love Checkin' out www.x-entertainment.com every two or three days during the month, as well as of course, now waiting all the Blu-Ray (once standard def DVD, of course) genre related news and trying to make room for a solid Amazon order. Hope everyone's month of October is a good, solid and fun filled one.
Had the day off so I got an early start with Prom Night (1980) and Terror Train (1980), two of my all time favorites.
Very very excited. Watching a couple films right after midnight...got to get a Slurpee, some Combos and other treats before then so I can do this proper.
Alright, I cracked and threw something in at 10PM; War of the Worlds in tribute to Orson Welles' Halloween trick, the greatest in History. I only had the VHS of it but that made it seem that much more of an quaint oldie. After I'm done here I'll throw the only surviving master of Vampira's show, The Thirteenth Guest in to start off October. It's a little tradition I've begun. The first horror hostess to introduce my Halloween marathon. I'll keep track of my viewings here: 09/30 The War of the Worlds (1953) 10/01 Vampira Presents, The Thirteenth Guest (1932) 10/01 The Drums of Jeopardy (1931) 10/02 The Man Who Changed His Mind (1936) 10/03 The Ghost Breakers (1940) 10/04 The Corpse Vanishes (1942) 10/04 Invisible Ghost (1941) 10/05 The Devil Bat (1940) 10/05 Devil Bat's Daughter (1946) 10/06 Maria Marten, or The Murder in the Red Barn (1935) 10/07 The Face at the Window (1939) 10/08 It's Never Too Late to Mend (1937) 10/09 The Greed of William Hart ( Horror Maniacs ) (1948) 10/10 The Undying Monster (1942) 10/10 :troll: Troll 2 (1990) [Rifftrax] :joshua: 10/10 Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959) [Rifftrax] 10/10 House on Haunted Hill (1959) [Rifftrax] 10/10 The Little Shop of Horrors (1960) [Rifftrax] 10/10 Night of the Living Dead (1968) [Rifftrax] 10/11 Monsters Crash the Pajama Party (1965) 10/12 The Walking Dead (1936) 10/13 Frankenstein 1970 (1958) 10/14 You'll Find Out (1940) 10/15 Zombies on Broadway (1945) 10/15 White Zombie (1932) 10/15 Revolt of the Zombies (1936) 10/16 King of the Zombies (1941) 10/16 The Giant Claw (1957) 10/17 The Flying Serpent (1946) 10/19 Bloodlust! October 01 @ Midnite First movie of the month: Silver Bullet. The traditional start to my October Horror Marathon. I still enjoy the heck out of this one.
