Oct. 31st Halloween Double Feature! La maschera del demonio a.k.a The Mask of Satan (1960) The Monster Squad (1987)
Oct 31st. Disney's Legend of Sleepy Hollow The Creature From Black Lake Trick R Treat One Eyed Monster Dead Snow We had a huge Halloween party and everyone had a great time. The favorite seemed to be Dead Snow, but One Eyed Monster got huge laughs. I was surprised that Trick R Treat got a muted response.

My Halloween movie-thon: Masters of Horror (John Carpenter's episode Cigarette Burns) Brides of Dracula Deep Red The Butcher The Blair Witch Project
finally watched Four Flies On Grey Velvet very disjointed, mostly thanks to some mad editing, but at times strikingly directed Mya's video presentation was excellent but audio wise it's a mess, some of the dialogue is too hard to understand and not adding subtitles for an Italian track is unforgivable still, it was a worthwile experience

I'm in the minority and embarrassingly so. Only 9 Horror films this year, down from 29 in 2008. A 69% drop. Best film I watched this month was The Children (2008), which surprised the hell out of me. And the worst? 100 Feet (2008), which even Famke Janssen could not save.

I got sick and because of various other things didn't have time to watch as much as I thought I would. That and going by my scores, it looks like I watched a lot of so so movies the last few days instead of the high notes I should have went out on. The Return of Count Yorga - I really enjoyed this, even more then the first. Like the first movie it does a realistic take on the vampire legend which was really well done. It was also a fun movie with some decent scares. Count Yorga is now one of my favourtie vampire franchises. Pet Sematary - Good movie if not great. The whole story didn't really get tome so maybe that was the problem, but some great writing and acting really held this one together. Mad Monster Party - Took me quite a few days to get through this one so I can't really say I liked it that much. I thought it was way too long! It should have been cut in half to 50 mins. like the X-Mas Rankin Bass Specials and I think it would have fared a little better. And the actress who played Frankenstein's wife was so annoying with her laugh. Oh, and the songs didn't work for me at all either. Really disappointed with this as I love most of their X-Mas Specials. The Grudge - This was done well but what can I say, evil kids just aren't scary. Halloween (Unrated) (2007) - First time I have seen this since seeing it years ago in theaters. I remember then being more of a fan of Zombie's then I am now, and probably a little more forgiving because I enjoyed his first two movies then i should have been. Needless to say, this movies is pretty terrible. It does not feel like a Halloween movie at all. The first half is almost unwatchable with some of the worst dialog to be spoken ons screen and some of the worst acting, especially by his annoying wife Sherri Moon. The only positive things I can say about the movie is that the killing scenes are tense and well done depicting their extreme violence. Oh, and the Director's Cut is probably worse then the theatrical version as the rape scene makes no damn sense and is horrible! Trick 'r Treat - Watched this a second time as I wanted a few of my friends to see it that couldn't make it the first go around. Just as fun as the first viewing, and it was cool to see all the hints that foreshadow the movie. Ghost Story - Decent story with good acting that probably was a half an hour too long. Blame - First of the 6 Movies to Keep You Awake set that really wasn't scary and was actually just barely a horror movie. I recently finished the second movie in the set and am afraid the title of the set is a little misleading as it too is barely a horror movie. I am all for character development and building up tension which these movies have done well, but it would be great if the build up actually led to a pay off. Hopefully the other movies in the set are more horror movie in the true sense. Tales from the Darkside: Trick or Treat - Nice way to finish the day I guess (I started Ernest Scared Stupid but fell asleep). Great idea for a story! Too bad you can tell they were working with next to no budget, and the horrible DVD transfer didn't help either. Total Movies Watched this Month 39!! Happy to say I beat my record from last year of 31 and am confident I can do even better next year considering all the crap that went on this month. Had lots of fun though, see everyone back on here next year!
Same kinda thing happened to me. I was trying to leave the better stuff until the end and before I knew it trick or treaters were ringing my doorbell! I'd been putting off watching some of my favorites almost all year. At the same time I threw in some unexpected stuff like Frankenhooker and Brain Damage which turned out to be great. A few more discoveries like those two and I think I can have the whole last week a solid lock for what to watch.
Yeah I was tying to get through my stack of unwatched movies but becasue oif that I ended up watching the crappy remkae of Halloween instead of the classic and its sequels. Ahh well, there is always next year. I am happy that I got through so many unwatched movies, hopefully next year I will have less unwatched so I can do a healthy mix of both.
