Has anyone tried the special features in a US player that isn't a PS3?

    Thanks for the update Maniac!

I have a standalone player, so I'm curious to hear if it works.

The extras is in 1080i/50, and most US players don´t seem to play that format.

This is the same with the extras on Arrow's City of the Living Dead blu-ray. I don't own a stand alone blu-ray player, but the PS3 will not play that format. They play perfectly fine on my PC blu-ray player which is hooked up to my 32" Toshiba 1080p LCD HDTV. So all is good with me. :)

Why the hell does Arrow go out of their way to make these releases region free and then encode the extras the way that they do!? Makes no sense.

If it's that Magnavox one, it's not! Get the $100-110 Sony at Sams Club, it's at least 10X better, 5X faster, and doesn't have any known issues. Trust me, I got the Wally player first myself and grew to hate it quick. Most films take over 3-4 minutes to load, the same ones load under 1 minute on the Sony. I was boycotting Sony for a while, but I can't deny the results since breaking that. I love my Sony BD player, hate my Magnavox!

Yeah, I'm a little confused about that too. It must be the editing process it goes through before the final product is pressed. I bet they don't even know they're doing it differently than the movie, and if they do they don't care.

Damn! My Amazon UK shipment was "returned as undeliverable" only 3 days after it shipped?

I've never had that happen before. Now I need to wait for the refund and order it again. It wouldn't be such a big deal, if it wasn't a larger order for $90.

You boys need to pick up a cheap region free player and you'll have no problems.

I'd love to, but don't most if not all of them require some kind of hardware modification as opposed to dvd players which just require a remote code hack.

The issue is that some of the extras on their releases are in standard definition PAL, which is what trips up certain American players like the PS3, which can handle the different varieties of HD but not the different varieties of SD. Recent extras, like all new video interviews and featurettes, tend to be produced in HD, but some extras, especially older extras, were produced in SD. The workaround would be for Arrow to have the SD extras upconverted into HD before they went in for authoring, although the downside is that this would eat up more space on the disc and cost additional $$$ (or I guess £££).

That's just it. Don't put SD features on an HD disc, that's what drives me fuckin nuts. Put them on a seperate SD disc so at least those with an all region dvd player, which most people have at this point, can watch them. I love Arrow for the effort they put into their releases, but their inconsistancy is killing me and it's so frustrating because these are so close to being perfect releases. The extras on their Beyond and Day of the Dead blu-rays play perfectly, but City of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and now The Funhouse have extras that wont play on US blu-ray players. They need to stop advertising these releases as "region-free" when in reality, they're not.

Man I want to pick this up but possibly not being able to watch the extras is a dealbreaker at the moment- I hope since they put the time into what sounds like a wonderful transfer that they will release it for R1 as well eventually (and soon)

The reason why the extras is in 1080i/50 (that most US players can´t play) is that´s the format/framerate the HD cameras over here in europe record, and if they would convert it to 1080i/60 the framerate etc would get fucked up.

I just don´t understand why most US players STILL don´t have PAL and 1080i/50 compability.
