I thought it was required that Crawl be on all top 10 lists...

Doctor Sleep surprised me. Hated the book, loved the movie. Usually it's the other way around. I think the premise works for a 90 minute movie but perhaps not so much in a 500+ page novel. Wasn't as big of a fan of Us as everyone else. Glorified Twilight Zone episode. Not that there is anything particularly wrong with that. I just don't see it being the best horror flick of last year. That's why we have our opinions, though, am I right? I'll have to check out some of the others on your list.

I don't think I caught enough new films from last year to compile a list. But theatrically I did really enjoy The Prodigy, Crawl, Booksmart, Child's Play, Uncut Gems, Good Boys, 47 Meters Below Uncaged.....and I really liked Midsommar.

Favorite older movie I caught for the first time was Psycho Cop Returns.

I don’t think that I’ve seen 10 films from 2019. The only ones I remember are Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame, Rise of Skywalker, and It: Chapter 2. None of which would make a “Best of..” list for me except maybe for Hollywood.

^ I forgot Climax was last year. Had I remembered, it probably would have made my list.

    The problem is, which list?

Hulu added The Art Of Self-Defense to their service this week. Not a horror film, but dark enough to highly recommend to genre fans.

They also added Wild Rose last month, so my top 2 non-horror films are both available on Hulu. Depraved and Little Monsters as well.

The Art of Self Defense was pretty fucking entertaining if you ask me. It was super weird, really funny, and just a fun watch. It reminded me a lot of Sorry to Bother You in tone.

For me it was a really slow year for movies. The worst Rambo came out. The worst Terminator came out. Yet the best John Wick came out, so that helps.

Most every Top 10 list I see is full of meh. Us, Midsommar, Crawl, Ready or Not, Brightburn. For some reason Satanic Panic appears on a few. They're all kinda mediocre to me.

I did, however, really like Parasite, and I loved Jojo Rabbit.

Perhaps we can all agree that I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu is probably the worst?

As someone who rarely goes to the movies (time and $$$), my "best-of" list typically doesn't fill out till a good 6-7 months into the following year.

For example, the best movie I saw theatrically in 2017 was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, but that movie was blown out of the water when I saw Ingrid Goes West, The Florida Project, Brigsby Bear, and The Little Hours on Blu-Ray as 2018 progressed.

It’s great seeing Art of Self Defense get some love. The band my son is in, Full Of Hell, is played in some key scenes in the movie. They were so excited to have their songs in a movie, and it turned out to be a really cool film as well ! My list is as follows , really in no particular order : Knives Out , Doctor Sleep, Joker , Parasite , Once Upon A Time In Hollywood , Dolemite Is My Name, Godzilla- KOTM , The Art Of Self Defense , Avengers Endgame , and Spider-Man- Far From Home. And I also enjoyed- Good Boys, Star Wars, IT 2, and John Wick 3. All of these were very enjoyable and entertaining to me for various reasons. I’m going to see 1917 on Tuesday , I hear great things. Really looking forward to a lot of other films this year as well !

I finally got around to watching this earlier in the week, and I loved it. Like Brigsby Bear and Ed Wood, it's a great "let's put on a show" movie. Lots of laughs and lots of heart.

Not sure if it'd crack my top 10, but it certainly deserves an Honorable Mention.
