If Showtime has all the scripts and signed both Kyle and Lynch, then despite Lynch's Premadonna bitch fest, Twin Peaks IS happening. Having a second series is another story, but a contract is a contract so he's only screwing himself by not delivering. The show will go on with or without him, although admittedly it'll be better with him.

I'm re-watching both seasons in preparation--and while S1 holds up and is in every way still awesome, S2 is really, really bad. It's aged even worse. I'm on ep 13 or 14 (out of 22!), and I'm not sure I will make it to the end.

As much as I love the feel of the series there are part of season 2 that are really hard to get through.

I haven't watched the whole series in a few years but yes, there is definitely a real bleak stretch of episodes after the Laura Palmer mystery is solved and before the Windom Earle plot kicks in. Hated the Civil War stuff with Ben Horne, the evil Little Nicky plot and love triangle with Lucy and Deputy Andy and the snooty store clerk, and the noir-ish femme fatale stuff with James (which didn't even take place in Twin Peaks!) Apparently the romance between Cooper and Audrey was supposed to be the focus of this part of the season and when MacLachlan refused that storyline the writers had to stretch the episodes with a lot of these minor B stories.

Well that's disappointing. I wonder if the scripts will ever be released? I'd be interested in knowing what might have been.

Also, it's interesting that they're saying Showtime pulled the plug. I wonder what happened exactly.

...or maybe it's still happening, just without Lynch?

I wonder if that means he didn't get enough money for the budget he wanted, or he wasn't getting paid enough to do it.

Sounds like a production budget issue. If this becomes a big hit for Showtime, maybe they'll be more willing to inflate the budget for a follow-up season that Lynch will want to be involved with. I certainly hope so, anyway.

I imagine a lot of the actors will remain loyal to Lynch and opt out if Showtime tries to go ahead with the series. If MacLachlan signed a contract he might be stuck but I can't imagine they've locked in many of the supporting cast.

I wonder what kind of money Lynch is talking about. Probably too much for a fan kickstarter/gofundme fundraiser. I wonder if they could bring in another studio/production company to help with the costs (the way Lynch had to finish "Mulholland Dr.")

Twin Peaks without Lynch would just be... Solo Peaks.

Am I the only one who thinks Lynch was trying to capitalize and asked for a ridiculous amount?

That could be part of the problem as well, it's hard to say. Frankly, IMHO, he deserves a "ridiculous amount".

I could give a rat about Lynch. The man is a good 20 years beyond his prime anyways. 25 years ago he was a unique director in Hollywood, but he was influential enough that there are probably at least 10 other younger directors that could do Twin Peaks justice.

And that is my unpopular opinion.
