The movie is not as gory as it would lead you to believe. It's been awhile since I watched it, but I remember being disappointed after viewing it.

That's why I tend to try before I buy with movies these days. I've started going through my collection and unloading movies I'm not going to watch again to save space and there's a lot of stuff I've only watched once since I've owned it and I don't plan to watch again.

Yeah, it's uncensored... just a straight rip of the old DVD that somebody uploaded.

I've watched about 40 minutes and I'm not sure I care to watch any more as nothing has happened. It seems very bland.

Yeah, I completely understand... it is a rather bland film for the most part. It does get better towards the end "shocker" though.

Apparently the "Video Nasty" status in the UK made the movie notorious enough for a British-produced remake, which is being released to DVD in the US on February 6th.

Looks... not so great. It was released on DVD in the UK in September. Any interest, or have any of our UK board members seen it?

They do give tours. I visited the mansion in September.

It's free to wander the grounds (the mansion is gorgeous and has a stunning view overlooking Portland), but they charge I think $10 to tour the inside. In fact, you'll find a little advertisement card in just about any hotel / airport tourist brouchure stand in Portland. If you're ever in Portland, highly recommended. It's just west of downtown.

Of course, if you're in Portland and don't mind a bit of a drive, there are two horror movie locations that are not to be missed! Head east into Mt Hood for the Timberline Lodge from The Shining (ask at the front desk and they've got a prop axe), and head south for Silver Falls State Park from Just Before Dawn (one of the most beautiful parks I've ever been to). Just watch out for bees at Silver Falls, I got stung!
