Universal Monster Legacy collections

Discussion in 'Classic' started by Deus Ex Machina, Aug 23, 2005.

  1. I finally finished my Legacy Collections and I was wondering if anyone knows if there are more classic Universal horror collections on the horizons?

There's the Lugosi one coming, and the Val Lewtons.

Anyone know if the set with the collectible busts is still available?

It's out of print, but I just saw this deal for $39.99 over at DVDTALK:

I dont think there are any more Uni Monster legacy collections coming out. Maybe one for Phantom of the Opera, but thats about it. They've released all the classic titles in those sets out now. I wish they had done the same box for the new ones as they did for Dracula, Frank and Wolfman. I love having those mini busts and would have loved one for Invisible Man, Mummy and especially for the Creature.

  7. Is this one still availabe anywhere, as i just want the original classics not the sequels.

Are these worth picking up now? I'm just getting into the older stuff and I'm not sure where to start.

All six of the Universal Legacy sets are worth owning, and they are all relatively cheap and can usually be found for under $20 a piece.

Not all the sequels are great – especially with The Mummy – but there are plenty that are downright excellent. Son of Frankenstein is a personal favorite, and The Creature Walks Among Us is fascinating.

    So yeah, get them all.

DavisDVD reported awhile back that the OOP legacy box set with the busts will come back into print on the 31st.

I wish they made monster busts for The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy, and The Invisible Man and offered them with the dvd sets. Sure they aren't nearly as popular as Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, and The Wolf Man - but it would have been damn cool!

Crap. I wasted $90.00 worth of trade-ins for a used box of the Monster Legacy.

For those interested, the Universal Legacy series has been my Halloween project this year. A co-writer and myself delved through all six sets, although only five are going up in time for Halloween. Its been Universal Horror week at DVD In My Pants...

B&N has the Monster Legacy Collection for $35 shipped and I almost ordered it. I changed my mind when I read all the comments on Amazon about how just about every box from any store has loose and/or scratched discs and that they're burned onto discs that some DVD players don't read correctly.

Is there any advantage to the new Universal release of CFTBL vs. the Legacy Collection from a few years ago?

    These rule

These Legacy sets are awesome...I agree about some of the Mummy sequels though...too much dumb humor...although *SPOILER*

    *SPOILER*

In one of the sequels, when the Mummy drowns the girl in that sludge pit, I was legitimately creeped out...awesome scene.
