Best Buy is so on the crack. That's the only answer that makes sense.

Thanks for the link. I am going to go ahead and order that horror set, although with my usual Worst Buy luck, they will play a soccer game with it before they mail it out.

    It's a miracle!
The worst BB in history is here in Ann Arbor, MI., you might be able to see it from the next U of M football game on TV. They actually had a few copies of this in stock this week, thanks fuckers.:fuck: I could've saved $5 on gas last week if they could've got them on time and I wasn't paranoid of them going OOP within a week.
Amazingly they did have Death Proof steelbooks today.:eek1:

I've never ordered from BestBuy.com. Is ordering from their website any better than going into one of their stores?

Onebyone's soccer comment has me concerned about their shipping.

EVERYTHING, even big elaborate box sets, get shipped in the same lame not very protective wrapper. I have returned everything I ever ordered from them in the mail save 2 items (one I sold on ebay in damaged condition for more than cost). I usually try to never order from them, but I am taking a risk on this one because apparently I like bad service.

Thanks for the warning. Looks like I'm going to compromise my principles and go to one of their stores. :nervous: Maybe I will wait until next week and pick up this sci-fi set along with the horror collection arriving on the 2nd?

I don't know if you use Deep Discount, but my last three orders were shipped in padded envelopes. One of these was used to mail me five dvds. Two of these packages arrived beaten up and unsealed. Most of these were MGM titles released last week and luckily nothing came damaged.

Wishing you better luck this time with BestBuy.com...

Un-real. I ordered From Beyond there and it came in a box like all my orders from DD always have, and was damaged.

Regarding the Best Buy exclusive set: I read a review and WHY is the ONE film I'm looking forward to the one with the worst transfer???? (DEADLY MANTIS). Sorry to complain. The reviewer (Savant) said a proper version has been shown on Monsters HD. Is it common for better transfers to show on Monsters HD?

From what I've heard Universal seems to has a strong division between their internal departments. Basically the right hand doesn't know what the left hand's doing, or doesn't care. Apparently the film archives have an excellent print of Frankenstein and have been touring new prints for many years. None of this restoration work has been utilized yet on home video. I'd guess it's the same situation with their TV department as well.

Plus Monster HD will pay to do their own HD transfer, as they have lots of Universal Horrors on air. Monster HD may own the HD transfers themselves although they obviously won't own any licensing rights to the films.

I watched Deadly Mantis yesterday and it wasn't that bad of a transfer. It did have some specs here and there (mostly in effects shots) but most of it looked exceptional for such an old film. That being said, I also watched The Land Unknown and that did look much better.

Is the DVD version of DEADLY MANTIS full frame (the review I read said it was) ? The Internet Movie Database said the film was shot 1:85.Of course,IMDB could be wrong,but....
Anybody able to clear this issue up ?

The version on this set is full frame. Not positive if it was supposed to be matted, but probably not as 3 of 5 flicks are widescreen.

    Congratulations! :D

I'm going in later this week to buy it. When I went in to Best Buy two weeks ago to buy the classic sci-fi set, I was pleasantly shocked that the cashier didn't try to sell me on a rewards membership or magazine subscriptions. Hope I get the same in & out treatment this time.

That's because BB quit charging a fee to use the Reward Zone program a long time ago. :p

Yeah, a few months ago I was accosted by an employee while browsing the dvds. I told him to take the RZ and stick it as I was a member at one point and it wasn't worthwhile. When he mentioned it was free I firgured it was worthwhile now. So far I've saved $15 even though they tried to stiff me on the double point coupon I had when I bought my Zune. Thankfully 1 phone call got that cleared and another $5 gift cert. into my hands. Too bad they don't most dvds and prices have gone up so much on everything else.:(

Funny things happen when I don't go into a Worst Buy store for nearly two years...
