The slipcover remaster comes after we all re-buy all of the titles we already have. "We are pleased to announce EVEN MORE AMAZING VERSIONS OF HIGH-DEFINITION TITLES YOU ALREADY OWN AT LEAST TWICE! Yes, the discs are the same, but the slip covers are brand-new! Now with more floating heads than ever before!"

I'll probably attend that panel, assuming the line to get in is not too long. The Archer panel ends at 6, hopefully that's enough time to get into the SF panel. Then I'll laugh at my buddy who goes up to talk to the SF reps after the panel, thinking he'll get "inside info" by talking to them directly.

Not that I'm against a Blu of that movie. But there's something about VHS quality of Boggy that makes it scarier.

I’d be all in for The Legend of Boggy Creek and the 1980 Night of the Demon (in all its penis-ripping glory) on Blu-ray. And I’m still hoping Synapse will eventually locate usable elements for Creature from Black Lake (which they announced back in 2014).

There's definitely something to this. I've been watching a bunch of obscure 70s TV horror flicks lately, mostly from crappy youtube rips. For reasons I can't fully articulate or understand, the rough quality gives them a kind of verisimilitude that you can't get from slicker-looking presentations. It would definitely be interesting to see if Boggy Creek would retain that primal scariness with a meticulous Synapse-type restoration. It would probably seem a lot more staged and fake.

Just a guess, but I would assume any issues with the negative would have occured while the film resided with Lorimar.

Negatives might be lost or unavailable, or in rough shape, or some of the elements - like opticals, etc. - could be missing. In any of those cases the IP is just as good anyway, since it's just the positive final of the edited negative/opticals.

Yes, but in terms of film restoration I’d be hard pressed to say that the IP is just as good as the negative. That’s why when the negatives are available, studios use them. An IP is already one step removed from the o-neg, so there is a bit of a drop in quality. When screening a film, yeah the IP is really the only option, but when scanning a film for restoration purposes, the negative is definitely higher quality/resolution.

I thought I had read somewhere that Warner only goes back to the OCN when they're going to do a 4K (or higher) scan.
