This error caused us to move the street date back two weeks to 10/30. All orders from our website will still ship two weeks ahead of that date however, so you can do the math :). "

That figure looks as horrible as most of their covers.

Crazy thing is the first figure is incredible.

I think they were trying to capture "Garbage Day" with the action figure's facial expression, but he just looks really happy and really shitfaced. They should have gone with the scowl.

Here’s something I’ve been asking myself lately. Besides the new extras, is a film like Trick r’ Treat really worth an upgrade already? Will it really look that much better on my 43” LED? I understand that they are doing a new 2K scan, but the movie is barely 10 years old so the HD master they used before couldn’t be that bad, as blu-ray was already out and they were likely mastering with a blu-ray release in mind, unlike other older films released on blu around that time. I’m just trying to be thriftier with my purchases and I’m wondering if this one is actually worth it.

I would assume the detail in the new scan might be richer.

I don’t doubt that. I guess I’m more wondering if it’s something I’ll even notice. Like Creepshow and House on Haunted Hill are no brainers for me, but Trick r Treat? I might be good with the WB disc.

    Hard to say.

The film scanner WB is currently using (a Lasergraphics Director) is probably quite a bit better than whatever they were using in 2007. If they're using the same element (provided that the element hasn't taken on any significant damage in the meantime) that was used to create the 2K DI in 2007, the newer scan could still look quite a bit better, even though both scans are created at the same resolution.

Unfortunately, "Original film elements" doesn't really tell us a lot about the elements that are being used for the transfer. I think it's safe to assume that it probably isn't the OCN, as it would probably have been specified as such. Most of the films of this era were finished as 2K DIs, and I don't think Trick 'r Treat was an exception, so I'm a bit curious as to what they're using if it's not the OCN and not the 2K DI. I'm really not sure if there would be any film generations between the OCN and 2K DI. I would hope they're not using an element that was created from the 2K DI.

Encoding is not a strength for Shout! Factory, but a lot of older WB Blu-Rays used a VC-1 codec with bitrates under 20 Mbps. Trick 'r Treat is no exception. Shout's typical AVC encode with a constant bit rate of 35 Mbps might actually beat a VC-1 encode with a variable bitrate that averages out around 17 Mbps.

I received this email from Shout regarding a manufacturing delay with Exorcist II: The Heretic:

The code given is of course unique, so not copied here. o_O

At least they did offer something this time around. Someone's Watching Me! didn't ship early from them recently either due to a delay.
