It may not have been posted on this forum, I can't really recall. If it wasn't then it might have just been one of those times when the forum was down here and it was just kinda skipped over.

That's interesting... I don't think Universal would think twice about these titles once licensed out. Must be something to do with the talent behind the extras...

    • Extras and specs are still in progress and will be announced later in May.

That poster is awfully tempting... But last I saw they still print out the "Collector's Edition" part which is real tacky. I'd rather have Susan Denberg get a credit if you're going to use the space and ink.

Yet another re-release in a steelbook.

    ***New PIRANHA (1978) Steelbook! ***

Joe Dante's killer fish favorite is now officially a “Scream Factory”-branded title as we present it in a new Blu-ray Steelbook® packaging! Swimming its way this Summer (naturally). Read on for more details:

    • Official street date is June 11th for U.S. and Canada territories (Region A).

    • We are preparing a new 4K scan of the film from the original negative and have recorded a brand new audio commentary with Executive Producer Roger Corman! All bonus features from the prior Blu-ray release will be ported over as well.

    • Only 5,000 units of the steelbook are being produced total. When they’re gone, they’re gone!

    • The artwork you see pictured on both come to us from by artist Nathanael Marsh (who also illustrated our prior Carpenter-themed steelbooks, including Halloween II & III). If you order directly from our site though, your packaging will also include an exclusive 28.5” x 16.5” rolled lithograph of the illustration. (The litho will not be available elsewhere and only 1,500 of them each are being made). The site offer with the litho can be found at https://www.shoutfactory.com/…/piranha-limited-edition-stee…

I mean cool I guess that it’s gettimg a fresh 4K scan from the negatives, but AGAIN why isn’t Shout dealing with their more problematic transfers (like Deadly Blessing, Cat People, Death Becomes Her, etc) and reissuing those? Fuck, Cat People is virtually unwatchable it’s one of the worst-looking blu-rays I’ve ever seen.

In these specific cases I would think it's because it's ultimately up to Universal if they want to do new transfers of them. I think the main reason they licensed it out was to squeeze one more fistful of cash out of these transfers before they do 4k back under Universal's own banner.

Whereas Piranha is now own by Shout lock, stock and barrel. So Shout could keep running Piranha's negative through the scanner until it disintegrated if they wanted to.

Yeah that's true, but they were still able to do new scans of Halloween II and III and those are Universal titles.

    **MORE NEW TITLES THIS SUMMER!**

We have not one, not two, but THREE new Universal titles from the '50s landing onto Blu-ray in June!

THE MONOLITH MONSTERS (1957) - A giant meteor crashes to Earth near the small town of San Angelo and local geologist Ben Gilbert (Phil Harvey, The Deadly Mantis) brings a fragment back to his lab for testing. Shortly afterwards, fellow geologist Dave Miller (Grant Williams, The Leech Woman) arrives to find the lab filled with rocks ... and Ben is dead ... his body turned completely to stone! Now in a desperate race against time, Dave and Professor Arthur Flanders (Trevor Bardette, Death Valley Days) must unlock the secret of the deadly rocks from outer space before they turn the world to stone and destroy mankind! Also featuring Lola Albright (Peyton Place), William Schallert (The Man From Planet X), and Troy Donahue (Monster On The Campus), The Monolith Monsters ratchets up the "tension and suspense ... and the actors really put it across to the viewer, creating a very compelling film" (The Telltale Mind)!

    Street date (U.S. & Canada): 6/18/19

THIS ISLAND EARTH (1955) - Prepare to blast off from planet Earth with one of the most popular classic sci-fi films of all time! When atomic scientist Dr. Meacham (Rex Reason, The Creature Walks Among Us) is chosen to take part in a top-secret research experiment in a remote lab, he quickly discovers that he is really involved in an evil scheme by alien Metalunans to take over Earth. After he and the gorgeous Dr. Adams (Faith Domergue, It Came From Beneath The Sea) make their escape shortly before the lab explodes, they are whisked away in a flying saucer to Metaluna, where they are blamed for the destruction. Will interstellar negotiation save the day or will the scientists be forced to take part in a treacherous battle to the death?

    Street date (U.S. & Canada): 6/25/19

MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS (1958) - Fear stalks the seemingly tranquil halls of Dunsfield University with the arrival of a prehistoric fish, the coelacanth. The terror begins when a student's dog laps up water that has been contaminated by the fish and turns into a savage wolf attacking Madeline Howard (Joanna Moore, Touch Of Evil). The school's paleontology professor, Donald Blake (Arthur Franz, The Caine Mutiny), is accidentally bitten by the coelacanth and blacks out, only to find that a hulking beast has killed one of his friends. Somehow, contact with this fish's prehistoric blood causes a total collapse of evolution, turning animals and humans into mindless, murderous monsters!

    Street date (U.S. & Canada): 6/25/19

Extras are in progress on all three films and will be announced on a later date.
