DiabolikDVD is reporting on Instagram that while all their F13 preorder Boxsets have arrived, many of them are damaged. They say they are inspecting them closely before shipment, but I’d be on the lookout.
I received my Friday the 13th set today from Shout, and it arrived perfect. The "custom" F13 shipping box it came in offered great protection I must say. One of the Jason Goes to Hell discs had a couple of slight "scratches" on it for some reason, so I'll run it through a checker program in a bit. I doubt there's any issue since they are barely visible, but I still want to be sure it plays okay. This set is massive, it makes the old Halloween boxset look small in comparison.
Well I got my shipping notice from TCM today. I'm guessing by the time it gets to me it'll be November and that's fine. Just looking forward to getting this beast in my hands.
It is a little strange that the first 5 movies/cases have actual "Reversible" covers, but then Jason Lives, The New Blood & Jason Takes Manhattan only have simple "Inner Prints" on the reverse sides. Then they continue with the "Reversible" covers for Jason Goes to Hell onwards. Ugh, I just ran the scratched "unrated" disc of Jason Goes to Hell through a disc program and it does lock up... so I'll have to see about getting a disc replacement from Shout now.
It's pretty cool. The segment runs 4:23 total and has no sound, and without giving too much away I'll state the obvious: anything cut would be admissible today, but it is nice seeing some elongated deaths. The double impalement and throat slash are the highlights, while the other kills are only briefly longer. I wasn't disappointed by this feature, but I was far from blown away.
I figured the biggie was the double impalement but that this film otherwise wasn't cut like My Bloody Valentine or Fridays Part 5 and 7 . I'm still so excited to get my set and check these out. Thanks for sharing!
I just finished watching Part 3 in 3D. I've seen this movie in 3-D in three different formats. (1) the red/blue glasses Paramount released on DVD and Blu. (2) the stereoscopic DVD released in the early '90s that only works on tube TVS. (3) a 35mm showing at a local theater. That said, the Scream Factory version is both perfect and imperfect. Other releases have better in-your-face moments, from the opening credits to the "I have warned thee" eyeball segment. The Scream Factory release lacks in such areas, but absolutely kills elsewhere else. From start to finish, in light and in dark, the 3-D image is clear, colorful, and full of depth, unlike any of the other version mentioned above. I watched the movie in awe of its constant depth, and was only let down by moments that are supposed to make you flinch. In all, it's a winner.
I've found another thing where the disc in the old Tin set was apparently better. Here's a BDInfo scan of Freddy vs. Jason from the Blu-ray in the Shout set: And here is a BDInfo scan from the Blu-ray in the old "Tin" Boxset: So Shout used the 2009 Blu-ray with it's 16-bit 5.1 track instead of the "updated audio mix" 2013 Blu-ray in the Tin set which had a 24-bit 6.1 track. Big core differences between them too. I don't really get why they did that...
...and there is possibly missing audio for Jason X on the new Blu-ray: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=18170581&postcount=16252 Someone else confirmed it here. It seems like I've heard about that before though, so maybe it's not a new problem? Was the old Blu-ray also missing those sounds? Nope, guess not. I'm pretty glad that I hung onto the Tin set now, or at least until Shout fixes some of these errors with replacements.
Jeff and Sandra is the biggie for sure, but I was shocked by Alice's longer death scene. When she turns her head towards the camera... I was not expecting that!
That blows, sorry to hear this. Let us know how that goes. My old tin set has that same problem on Jason X. Little scratches from probably something getting stuck in the cardboard sleeve, and of course didn't realize it until 5 years later when I finally watched it. The issue was in the very beginning credits of the movie and you have to skip to Jason being chained up in the facility missing a few moments of that too. What are the chances of getting disc replacement for those old one from Warner Bros? Probably none. What program do you use for a checker? Is it free? Yeah, there's no way I'm getting rid of my tin especially after hearing the 3D differences on Part 3.
I generally just use DVDInfoPro, but VSO Inspector is freeware and works just as well to detect any disc problems...it just doesn't display a detailed sectors graph when it scans through the disc. The end result is pretty much the same whichever program is used.
Here is what's missing from the "Unrated" Jason Goes to Hell Blu-ray in the new set: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGH5s9ZHX7Z/ Warner likely supplied Shout with the master, so any "fix" might have to come from them if Shout can offer a replacement on it.
Shocktober Sale at Shout: https://www.shoutfactory.com/sale/shocktober? This is one of their better sales, good prices on a lot of them for a change.
Thanks for the heads up - but frustrated me as I had the Halloween III steelbook in my cart and when I went to check out it removed it and its listed as sold out now- blah
Detailed screencap comparisons are up for the original Friday the 13th: https://caps-a-holic.com/c_list.php?c=5625 Their website got hammered earlier and crashed completely a few times. It looks like quite a few things have already sold out and been removed from the main sale page.
