What a clusterfuck of a release. Shout must have one of the worst QC out there. There gotta be a fan of the series working there, that could check the content for errors, BEFORE they press any discs. And as usual, companies blame the COVID situation, for their fuck ups. What was their excuses, BEFORE the virus? "We just have to be patient and enjoy the set for what it is right now. Which is far better than we've had in the past with bootleg VHS tapes, imported DVDs, and fragile Laserdiscs." Well at least those (even my bootlegs) didn't have these kind of QC issues, with missing footage and effects.
"Hopefully they will learn and grow from this." They have been around for 18 years now...it will never change.
Wow, sounds like things are tough all over. If folks are having this much issue with the direct from Shout! orders, I can only imagine what the secondary distributors are getting. I'm happy to report all my discs passed 100% error free surface and file through VSO Checker. Guess I lucked out there. Only the F13 Remake had a couple of very minor surface scratches, but playback isn't affected.
This is pretty much the reason why I never do unless it is less than $20 or from a company like Arrow or Vinegar Syndrome with an exemplary record. I did pre-order this thru Bull Moose though and planned to get it for $40 after selling them a bunch of unused stereo equipment. But today, I’m getting a notice from them saying they can’t fulfill my order because it’s no longer available. I wish I could take that as evidence that Shout has recalled the set, but I know from prior experience that it more than likely means that I’m still going to get it it’s just going to take another month.
After seeing the other person had a damaged box I double checked mine and fortunately no issues. Also my posters were in like new condition. I will open and begin watching the movies this weekend and will see if there are scratches or smudges.
For non-Friday the 13th boxset discussion, I had considered biting (haha) on the sale with Piranha (I rewatched it recently, literally for the first time in nearly 40 years, and really dug it) and a couple of $17.99 titles, but it sold out. $17.99 isn't a bad price for some of the movies I've been wanting, but it's not a cant-miss price either. Especially when I see Candyman is now below $10. I sure as shit paid a lot more for it. There will be opportunities to get the movies I want, for less. Especially if they have to do another loss-leading sale to bring up numbers after this F13 debacle.
Scream Factory has been near-perfect for me in the past, but within the past month I've run into three problems: 1. My Motel Hell steelbook came damaged. I'm still waiting to hear back on "replacement parts." 2. A three-movie order from 8/29 is still processing. 3. The Friday the 13th screwup. I have no idea when they plan to replace the discs, but I won't let it pass me by. The only other time I had a problem with Scream Factory was back in '14 with the Halloween 4 audio sync issue, but I didn't know about a replacement disc until it was too late.
I really hate those fucking kind of comments. It's always from the Studio brown-nosers who would lick Shout's asshole and ask for a diarrheal dessert. Yeah I'm glad Shout release things I want... but I'm also glad Charmin makes toilet paper. People pay good money for them, and Shout should also do a quality job is what it all comes down to. They could take a clue from other studios who have solid quality control and very rarely ever screw things up, even with their large boxset releases. Don't rush your damn products out just to make the "Halloween" season for one thing. This was a huge set, so a little solid "testing" with fans who knew their shit would have been far cheaper than having to do multiple replacement discs in the first place.
Tell me about it. Blu-ray.com is full of them, acting like those of us concerned are being unreasonable. First time I've heard anyone try and defend a brand new, sealed product having scratches like it's no big deal. That should never happen and Shout should be taking it very seriously. Same deal goes for those few issues some of the films have. Blu-ray.com people have the nerve to act like those expressing frustration are ungrateful. Like really? I also find that printing issue affecting some of the sets pretty poor on Shout too. There's clearly no QC as those shouldn't be hard to spot and shouldn't be leaving their warehouse.
My box looks good, I have all the right discs and they are all clean. Apologies if this has been mentioned: but is there some other issue with the set? Like, real issue?
The 3d intro of Part 3 wasn't done right, making the effect not work. JGTH is missing a brief scene of a cook getting his arm snapped and bone sticking out. Jason X is missing audio of the girls grunting during the sleeping bag kill. Those are the main ones that have been brought up.
There is no reversible i love ny cover in the box set. There is no reversible Part V VHS cover in the box set. Instead they used a similar European poster redux. At this point after shout factory blames covid. I think if they were smart I'd blame those god damn enchiladas!!!
How's the picture quality on the new Motel Hell Steel book? It appears bestbuy stores has it as well as the new Friday set. My bestbuy doesn't have em of course.
