Review here: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Eyes-of-a-Stranger-Blu-ray/102174/#Review It would surprise me if it's not the same as the old "R" DVD from Warner, which was actually the full "Uncut" version. Mine should arrive from Target today. At least this was available as a pre-order on the last B2G1 free sale... so it was just $18.31 shipped after the discounts.
^^^ Ugh, Shout are using eco-cases now... the cheapass ones with "holes" in the front/back. Eyes of a Stranger & He Knows You're Alone & WildCats all arrived with them. The 2 new "Limited" exclusives Big Bad Mama 1 +2 and Crazy Mama/Lady in Red also arrived today with the cheap eco-cases. So that's 5 confirmed eco-case "holes" releases. So I guess that's their new normal... cheap shitty cases.
^ My He Knows arrived with the eco case all smashed up and the disc rattling around inside. Eyes and Wildcats were fine though (those were in a separate shipment). Target told me to just keep the busted He Knows and the replacement will be here tomorrow. But yeah, these cheap eco-cases that can't survive shipping are just creating more waste in the world. It's a bit counter-productive.
The Blu-ray has a running time of 1:25:20 The old Warner DVD had a running time of 1:24:57 which was actually "uncut" despite the "R" rating — so I highly doubt this is anything but the uncut version of the film. If nothing else, it's slightly longer.
Maybe it has something to do with the Warner logos (like did the Blu-ray open with the original Saul Bass Warner logo whereas as the DVD opened with the logo with the they Warner Communications byline from the mid-80s)? While you ponder that theory, here are today's Shout! tidbits. Not new, but new to me. (figure I put it in this thread, considering Shout released the films) Sad that Adolfo Quiñones died shortly after this interviewer. Another little note, that Michael Chambers, after he saw The Thing, got an initial idea to dance on the ceiling because of that. Apparently he was asked for ideas for the 2nd movie. So that's what he pitched to them. Little did he know about Fred Astaire( which he learned later)
New to me too, I haven't seen that before now... Lucinda Dickey still looks great. I did hear about Adolfo Quiñones' passing right after it happened. Sad... but at least he had a couple of kids and several grandchildren.
Flimsy cases I can live with. What really grinds my gears is that they eliminated the "Grindhouse Experience" option from the BBM and Crazy Mama/Lady in Red double features. When you selected that on the DVD, you got some Corman trailers, the ever-so-wonderful "Our Feature Presentation" intro, then the first movie, more trailers after that, then the second movie. I did a quick side by side of Crazy Mama, and the Blu Ray looks WAY better than the DVD (doesn't look like a simple HD transfer of the same master), so that will be the way I watch it. But I'll miss that absolute fun of doing an uninterrupted 3 hour drive-in fest of two movies plus trailers.
I just received this email. Greetings from Shout! Factory, We're writing to let you know that, due to a production error, the initial run of Crazy Mama was missing a bonus feature interview with Jonathan Demme and Roger Corman. Customers who have already ordered this Blu-ray will be sent the revised disc as soon as it is available. New orders for this product will resume shipping to arrive on July 20, 2021, with a corrected Blu-ray disc.
This seems to be happening quite a bit lately and from various companies. Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, Shout, and Full Moon have all sent me replacement discs relatively recently and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
