Is it still vogue to bash Boll? or is Boll the underrated smart talent?
Decide and vote!
I'm sorry, I'm not sure I really understand what is going on here (but I voted anyway). Is there any evidence to believe this poll is anything but a Uwe Boll smashing set-up?
Who knows for sure?
It's merely a reality check for me, and for others to express their hatred or love.
Boll is much closer to genius than idiot. I can't imagine anyone else in his position poking fun at themselves, which clearly shows he "gets it". Fucking shame I'm the lone postive vote, esp. after so many strong efforts from Boll over the last few years. Guess everyone gave up after Alone in the Dark, but Postal is comic brilliance and Seed is a great dark horror film.
Yeah the trailer for Blubberella looks silly (I'm being nice, it looks fucking retarded, the bad retarded), but the others like Aushwitz look good. I think everyone is sad that Uwe is becoming a real talented filmmaker, and miss having that built in joke with his name. It's gone people, let it go and enjoy some the fine films the man is making!
Idiot. In fact this is one 'person' I actually wish would DIE. Slowly. Challenging critics to boxing matches is not genius, it's a cry for attention and a total display of insecurity. Curb stomp this fuck.
Only one explanation for your vote.
"The van's on fire!"
He is a genius. Watch RAMPAGE and tell me he's a hack. Postal, Tunnel Rats, his video game movies are entertaining and not entirely incompetant, people give him flak for his lack of subtlety in his earlier work. The only film of his that I've seen and not really enjoyed was SEED, although that was dark and nihilistic as hell. AND he keeps pumping this stuff out!
An underrated smart talent.
I want to point out one film that started it all. House of the Dead. Really look at that film. Tell me the shots of the ship on the way to island wasn't good. Imo it looks beautiful. People just hate the film because he took a near impossible video game to movie transfer, and made it his own.
His films are very underrated. Like you said, watch Rampage & Tunnel Rats. Watch Darfur.
He's no Tommy Wiseau but neither is he a Takashi Miike. Statements that he's the worst director are overstated, but statements that he's a great film maker are just as overstated. I also don't buy that all his stupid stuff is "an act," seems like a nice catch all for his defense.
Idiot Savant maybe?
That's actually a good way to put him
His output lately has been bizarre and very good, I wouldn't be surprised by anything from him.
I turned House of the Dead off and fell asleep within 20mins. of Alone in the Dark. It would be hard for me to give his non-video game titles a look just cause. Him winning an award recently really surprised me so there must be something to his other work. I'll remain undecided for now I guess.
Mok, watch Rampage. Trust me, it's worth it.
Perhaps not an idiot, but a poor filmmaker and ego maniac to be sure.
There's no way in hell I'd ever sit through another one of his movies, unless I was paid for the punishment. If I see three of a Director's films and all are utterly terrible without any redeeming features whatsoever...they've lost me on any of their future films.
^^^ Katatonia, watch Rampage. It's worth it.
I've only ever seen House of the Dead, so I'm not going to vote, but I've always wondered why people bashed him the way they do. Filmmakers like Doris Wishman and Andy Milligan made trash for years and yet they didn't get shit on like Uwe Boll.
I love how people claim "he's BECOME a good/decent/great filmmaker."
Usually it doesn't take someone to direct a dozen films before they begin to show talent.
Ain't that the truth!
in the name of the king. one of the worst movies i ever watched. i may have picked dumbass or kinda sucks if those were choices but they weren't so i went with idiot.
This is really tough. Yeah the older films were appalling, but the later ones especially RAMPAGE are good.
I then think about a guy like Roger Corman, who openly made his name making crap then moved on to "better" things. Bolls early films were openly tax films hence the stars he managed to rope in.
Seems like Uli will not be allowed to develop?
