All things come in threes, that holds true for the V/H/S franchise. It has just been announced that a third film is in the works, entitled V/H/S Viral. Little has been said about the project so far, but here is what is known, including the writer/directors and some of the cast:

I loved the first two and this one is shaping up to be just as good! If you have yet to see DeadGirl, Time Crimes or Resolution, check them out!

DEADGIRL and TIMECRIMES are incredible. I'd recommend them to anyone on this site.

Haven't seen Deadgirl yet, but Timecrimes blew my mind. I'm up for a third. I enjoyed the first two.

Excellent news about V/H/S/3... keep 'em coming.

Deadgirl is an interesting unique take on a subgenre - but I'd hesitate to call it "great," it's intelligent and very gritty but because of that no everyone will like it. Resolution on the other hand was really great. Both had some depth.

The first trailer is now available thanks to Dread Central. Looks cool so far.

Can´t wait to see it :)

I´m not a huge fan of the found footage genre. As most are crap.
But I REALLY like the V/H/S movies, Rec 1 & 2 and Cannibal Holocaust.

When done right, like the ones I mentioned, it works great :)

I borderline hated the first VHS movie. To the point where I wasn't going to watch part 2. But Part 3 looks pretty good. So I guess I'll watch Part 2 with 3 one day.

On paper, it should have been a great film. You could tell the ideas were there. Some of them were even novel. But I am not braindead. So, I have to ask the filmmakers: exactly what is horrific, intelligent, or revealing in any way about your decision to make the characters such minus-one note stereotypes and just put uninteresting sleaze and degradation of women on an unending loop? No: the frequent, repetitive topless scenes were not essential to the plot. Especially of the webcam story, which is where it became crystal clear that this was being done by stupid directors. Ti West did the best piece, but that's not saying much. The twist is dumb and abrupt.

I too thought V/H/S was going to be good. I think there were a lot of positive early reviews for it. But the movie does suck. And that stuff with the women is bad. I posted an edited version of my V/H/S review in a Friday the 13th thread. This is the full version:

V/H/S aka A bunch of assholes are filmed and bad things happen to them -

I almost stopped watching this movie minutes into it as one of the first scenes features a bunch of guys assaulting a girl in public during broad daylight. It's not rape but it might as well be. I don't see how the director or writers thought this was a good scene to start the movie with. In fact they like the scene so much that it's featured in the credits multiple times. When I was in grade school a bunch of guys used to go around slapping the butt of many girls and running. I thought they were animals and belonged in detention if not worse for that. In fact, I think the director or writers might just be closet rapists or something because there are other similar, very crude scenes with women. I thought I was about to watch a full on girl passed out due to alcohol sex/rape scene at one point. Which I don't think was beyond the guy's character but the writers thought they better not cross that line and have the guy move to his friend's girl. There are a few topless webcam things too and a shot in a car with a blonde girl that's very similar to that real life blonde girl that went missing on one of those islands close to South America. It's all very crude and tasteless stuff.

I actually thought I was watching the wrong movie and not a horror movie at all at first as the horror doesn't start until 30 minutes into the movie. And for the most part it doesn't feel like a horror movie but just let's film a bunch of assholes and have them encounter horror elements or bad situations. It's not the slightest bit scary and I was bored and watched the last two segments a day later. I just read the wiki on V/H/S 2 and I'll pass on that one now.

I didn't love either V/H/S or V/H/S 2 but I liked them enough to check out a third entry. I definitely think that anthology is the perfect format for found footage.

I don't want this to come across as me singling you out, because I'm not, but I completely understand why rape scenes in film really bother some people. But I've seen other people make similar cases about this kind of subject matter in film. With that being said I find it quite absurd that you are accusing the filmmakers of being "closet rapist." Just because artists put deplorable characters into their work doesn't mean they identity with those characters. In what way do you think they are condoning this kind of behavior? Those guys were massacred by that woman and for good reason, they were scumbags. The only person you really feel bad for outside of the two female characters is the kid wearing the glasses. He was the only one trying, and failing, to convince his two "friends" that what they were doing was a bad idea.

I'm not at all trying to convince you that V/H/S is cinematic gold, but that whole statement is ad homienm.

I thought V/H/S was terrible, but loved V/H/S 2 so I would give it a shot. The stories are much more interesting in the second film, and the characters are for the most part much more likeable.

Characters don't have to be "likable." They just have to be written intelligently; if they are antagonistic or nasty, there should be a good reason for them to be. In V/H/S, it's the typical millennial parade of "free for all douchebaggery" with no point to it. Revenge? Who cares? It was random debauchery. Random = lazy, sloppy, not compelling. It doesn't take an artist to throw objectively offensive material on the screen. But it takes a pro and a worthwhile filmmaker to handle it with skill- not just anyone can do it.

That's how things got so out of control in the genre in the first place. That's why we have so much resentment against so-called "tortureporn," why the term itself was born. Every director thinks they can do it, they don't pay attention to what the people who've tried before them have done, where they've succeeded and failed.

I have nothing against the found-footage format, but V/H/S is one of the worst uses it I've seen. It literally gave me a headache. I haven't seen the second one yet. Don't know if I care to.

Do yourself a favor and ignore the recommendations earlier in this thread for Deadgirl. It's nothing but 90-odd minutes of hoodlums raping a female zombie. One of the most repellant excuses for a movie I've seen.

The official poster has just been released. Pretty bad ass if I must say so myself.

V/H/S Viral is slated for release on VOD October 23rd.

Saw this a few days ago and all I can say it sucked. Just avoid it pretend like it doesn't exist at all. Unless if you like a bunch of dudes on bicycles and skateboards then avoid it! It doesn't hold a candle to the first two films at all. This should have been rated PG-13 it does not give the R rating any justice. Don't say I didn't warn you as it's pretty bad and awful. If you do see it just make sure your expectations are low very low. My expectations were way too high I expected a wild ride it provided none. My rating for the film is D+ and I am being generous!

VHS 3 was ATROCIOUS! words cannot describe how terrible this entry was. it's quite bizarre too in that it doesn't even feel like it belongs in the VHS series. The first was good, the second was AWESOME, and then this turd...avoid at all costs...or see it just to vomit at its awfulness. seriously, after how great the second film was, it's almost shocking to see just how bad this third film is.

Yeah it reminded me of Hellraiser Revelations and Creepshow 3.
