How many of you are old enough to remember the ABC Movie Of The Week series of movies from the 1970s? Talk about nostalgia!
This is a very rare movie as it is not available on video format of any kind and they VERY RARELY, if ever show it on tv anymore. I searched for this movie for over a year with no luck until I was finally steered toward a fellow collector who happened to have this gem in their collection!
Anyway, here is all of the information for what I wanted to share.

    Plot
This movie centers on Ruth Bennett (Barbra Stanwyck) and her niece Sara Dunning. They move into the house of Ruth's recently deceased aunt and shortly thereafter they learn the house is possessed by two ghosts of the original owners who were from the time of the Revolutionary War. Shortly after arriving Ruth discovers a family Bible hidden in a secret compartment of a roll top desk. Contained within is the name of the original owner which includes the name of his deceased wife and also a name that has been crossed out in ink. As the movie progresses we learn the identity of this person and the reason for it being obliterated through the possession of niece Sara and Pat McDougal (Richard Egan).

Wow! No video at all? Then I will surely download and review it. Sounds like a rare treat. :)

Although...the download links don't appear to work. :(

Oh well. Thanks for opening my eyes to this TV terror.

The synopsis sounds quite good and also somewhat familiar.

I'd love to see it. But yeah, as mentioned above the download links appear to be broken...

Hey! Perhaps this was released the video some time before. I just found a tape on eBay. $295, but still, it appears to be a legit tape.

I saw that one as a kid, pretty decent. There were a number of good TVM horrors between the early 70's to mid 80's.Wish someone would put out a set on DVD.

OK, first of all, I want to say that this is legit. The only mistake I made was not associating the files with a premium account, thus limiting the files by rapidshare to a 10 download limit...and the only reason I did not was because I assumed that, since I was logged in when I uploaded the files, that they would AUTOMATICALLY be associated with my premium account.
Once I found out the links were dead I transferred them to my premium account, thus removing the download limit.
Here, if anyone is still interested, are the non-limited links:

Like Dark Night of the Scarecrow and Home for the Holidays...would LOVE to see those come out.

The "Night Gallery" (1969) movie luckily came out with the first season of the 1970 show, as I think it was a pilot. Ooo, I love that too. Those were good shows. :)

Man, these threads always make me sad because I want to see these again sooooo bad! Sure, I could try bootlegs, but I don't trust what they may look like (if I even get it in the mail). What global corporation owns ABC these days, anyway?

Great thread! I've never been lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of "The House That Would Not Die". Never been lucky enough to see the movie either.
But I'm a huge fan of the 70's "TV horror" scene as well. I've got the "Mysterious Monsters" on it's way right now. My favorites are the same as everyone's seems to be "Bad Ronald", Don't Be Afraid of the Dark", "Don't Go to Sleep", Dark Night of the Scarecrow"...all great stuff! I own them on bootleg, but only because I had to. I also blindly purchased Wild Eye's dvd of "Crawlspace", which was filmed around the same time & location (CT) as "Last House on the Left". A very interesting movie.
I didn't know about the "ABC Movie of the Week Companion" book! Thanks for the heads up!! I've got that coming now as well. Maybe it will introduce me to a few titles I'd never heard of. There's much internet talk on these TV movies, it's a shame they don't get the treatment they deserve. There's a thread here somewhere saying "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" is getting an eventual blu-ray release!! I sure hope it happens, that would be groundbreaking!

If video/audio quality is in question, here is a sample you can view w/o downloading the whole movie...at first. Once you see the quality, I'm sure anyone who wants a copy of this movie will want to download!
