I would give Gothic another chance. The first time I saw it I also recall not being all that impressed, but it gets better every time I see it now.

The Gate is down to $19.52 on Amazon. That is the lowest price I've seen.

It's not like either Labyrinth at all. It's more like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Mary Shelley (THAT Mary Shelley) and a few friends trip balls in a mansion and have nightmares. That sounds more fun than it is, but if you're familiar with the four historical characters it is kinda fun. It's something of an infamous night historically and as a big Frankenstein fan I get a kick out of the fact that this was made at all.

It's been a little while since I've seen it, but that's because I've been holding out for an HD release. MGM UK brought it to DVD from a HD master. I wouldn't be surprised if that's all we get just at 1080p.

What are the chances of getting a slipcover if I order it now?

I'm only one person, but I've ordered Waxwork I/II(in Dec/2016) and Warlock Collection(in June/2017) from Amazon. Both came with slipcovers.

I know it's not Amazon, but what ever you do, don't buy Blu's with slipcovers from Best Buy AND have them ready to be picked up at the store. They put large stickers on every item to mark Sale/Pick-Up when you come to pay for them. Best Buy ship to home only if you don't want to deal with stickers.

Yeah, Gothic is about as “fun” as your typical somewhat pretentious art film. Which is to say, not at all. That’s how I remembered it at any rate. Haven’t seen it in 25 years. I didn’t think it was a bad movie, though.

Man, if I'd been casually interested in this title, this comment would have scared me off. No sale!

There was (is) definitely a place for video stores. Worth seeing, but not worth owning.

I'll flat out say it: I hate "artfulness" in horror movies. For the most part, I take my horror movies straight up or not at all. Same goes for "comedic" ones. There are a handful of successful horror films with comedic elements but they're few and far between. I'll never blind buy a film described as either "horror comedy" or "experimental".

I thought Gothic was a very unique WTF film with 1 standout scene having a woman with eyes in her nipples

it also has Julian Sands, which I somehow like to watch very much (and Gabriel Byrne and Timothy Spall)

If Julian Sands is in it, then you are likely watching a pretentious art-film, particularly back in the late 80s-early 90s, lol. Lone exception probably being Warlock.
