Amityville without the house is like Friday the 13th without a Voorhees, or The Omen without Damien. So it's my opinion that only the first three (which were the only ones theatrically released) are truly Amityville movies. The rest are sequels in name only.

I voted for the original Amityville Horror in this poll, but that was before purchasing the new box set. Revisiting the series and seeing Amityville 3-D in it's original scope I've found it the most entertaining, in spite the fact (or even due to ) that it's pure cheese. Swiss cheese to be exact, judging from the sheer amount of plot holes it contains.

    Amityville II > Amityville

I finally saw Amityville 2 on the weekend. I hadn't been in the least bit interested in any Amityville sequel since they catch so much flak. I mean, everyone claims the first one is better and that one was decent at best for me. So I popped-in my $2.99 Z-Mart purchase on the weekend with my expectations set low. Man, all I have to say is, if you're holding off on Amityville 2 for the same reasons as I was, then do yourself a favor and check that shit out. I think it was way better than the first one. Faster pace and just more of everything - in a good way.

Well...even though Amityville 2 is imo the best of the series, my actual favourite would be Amityville 1992: It's About Time. Of course that could just be because of Megan Ward....

Never really cared for the first Amityville. Agreed with Mok on the second one. The Possession is a better movie. Everything's amped up and it doesn't hurt to have a little sleaze thrown in for good measure. I do lose interest with the Exorcist angle during the second half though. It's About Time is good cheese. The rest of the series is shit.
