No rhyme or reason... I am mainly a horror fan, but I like many different types of films...I collect what I want to see or stuff I had seen in the past...if I like it, I buy it...
no rhyme or reason... i own so many different types of horror...(hard to find/obsucre, euro, slashers, classics) all kinds...
Other: "I want a library of mainly harder to find obscure films to watch when I want." Slightly different enough not to use the standard listing. I've decided that I don't need the more common movies (unless I can get 'em dirt cheap). I enjoy strange new (to me) films more than anything else so that's my main focus. But I don't own films specifically because they're rare. I sold my copy of Begotten for example because I thought it was terrible. Doesn't matter how rare, strange and obscure a film might be if I don't like it I pitch it. There's some film history in there, as I keep things in chronological order, but I don't own something simply because it's a corner stone of the genre. "Last House is a staple of the Rape genre? That's nice, I'll give it to you for three bucks."
I want my film collection to be a library. It'll never be complete, but thats the way i want it to be. I'll continue to discover films and continue to buy them. they could be horror, sci-fi, drama, action, whatever.
I mainly like rare stuff that will never ever be shown on TV. Mainstream movies I can watch on TV or rent, but the rare stuff you usually have to buy. Plus it's a thrill to see something that you took a while to hunt down a copy of
First off, haha what's with all the remarks about rhett? Haha, poor guy. But I dunno what my horror collection is. It used to be about having a lot of '70s/'80s stuff, but I think it's now become all about owning movies I know I'll WATCH. I just got rid of about 35-40 movies from my horror collection that I know I'll never watch again. Got a solid like $180-200 for them, too. In terms of my movie collection as a whole, I like having a history of movies. And it just so happens that I like all these films from their respective eras. And then (this might sound a bit weird) there's movies I feel I should just own, given what I'm studying in school. I never really liked The Wizard of Oz all that much, but I feel it is an important film and worth owning. ~Matt
I view my collection as a library, though at 1500 dvds, it feels more like a rental store. lol When the kids start moving out (which will be awhile), I'm going to turn one of their rooms into a "movie library" which will have shelves from the floor to ceiling, with all kinds of movie memorabilia scattered throughout.
Damn it, you totally beat me to the joke. The above is a given, that said I have movies that make me happy like Halloween, Zombie, Suspiria, Elm Street 1, The Paramount Fridays, Re-Animator, Evil Dead II, Night/Dawn/Day... etc. These films are treasures to me. Like most of us I have seen wayyy too many horror flicks. I have seen tons of horror enough to know that the cream of the crop are the ones I will most likely re-visit often... how many times am I going to watch Strip Nude for Your Killer or Scalps? Not often.
What? I just watched Scalps four times yesterday! There aren't enough hours in the day for that movie. (actually, I've never heard of it - is it any good?)
Haha, no I've actually never seen it. Just judged it by the title. Might check it out, though (just looked it up on IMDb). I'm not sure if I've ever seen a movie from the Philippines before. Although, IMDb claims the movie's in English. ~Matt
It's dubbed. There's this great rental place in LA called Cinefile and I found it in their section titled "What the Hell" along with Nukie, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie and that flick where Arnold S. gets pregnant. it seriously is so awesome. The hero is an overweight Philippino guy in a denim jacket named "Lando" Satan wears tights.
Haha, sounds ridicoulous. As for me, shit I gotta go to bed. Fuuuuuuck it's like 3AM and I have class tomorrow. ~Matt
The majority of my favorite horror films tend to be from the 1960's - 1980's, though just about anything is fair game for my collection. I make a point to stay away from cannibal and rape movies. I collect much more than just horror films, but horror will probably always make up the largest percentage of my collection. It's so much fun to have an eclectic assortment to pick from any given day of the week. For this reason, I voted: My collection has no rhyme or reason and I like it that way. A wide variety keeps things interesting since we never and I mean never watch television.
