By all means, get it if you can find it it's not a bad version, but if you ever get to compare it with the X-Rated one you might regret you went with the darker AB. Still, both releases are worth having and the new Italian one looks promising.

If I like this movie enough,I'll perhaps buy the X-Rated also.
By the way, have you seen the Italian one already??
Let me know how it is please.

the young women in this film are perhaps the hottest I've seen in a giallo. Jesus...it's better than a porn flick. :sperm: ;)

According to a couple of people on the net (who I do not know) Torso's OAR is in fact 1.66:1.The AB version slightly matted for anamorphic enhancement.
Look at these shots from the Xrated release, their framing seems alright:

I can get it for 9.99 Euro ($12)!!
    This one will be mine!Oh,yes!

Watched it last week. It's a great film!
I enjoyed it better than Day Of The Maniac. But that one I have only seen once, perhaps I need to see that one again. The killer's motives were a bit far fetched, but hey it's a Giallo! They're supposed to be far fetched:D

About the Alan Young Pictures version Xploited says this:

    DVD FEATURES
    Uncut Anamorphic Widescreen (1.66:1) Version

    English & Italian Audio Options

Italian Subtitles (Forced during English Audio playback)

    US Opening Credits Sequence

    US Trailer

    International Trailer

PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THE ENGLISH SOUNDTRACK WAS EITHER NEVER RECORDED OR LOST. THEREFORE SOME SCENES ARE IN ITALIAN ONLY WITHOUT ENGLISH SUBTITLES (WHICH THE ANCHOR BAY DVD HAS).

Also available is the X-Rated Kult DVD (Germany) Release which is the same version, but is not anamorphic and does not have forced subtitles. Other than the Italian DVD being anamorphic there is little difference if any in the video quality between the 2.

So I'm glad I picked this one up.And since I don't have any problems reading German subs (though but a few) this one's the best one for me.

I'm not saying one is truly better than the other, but those captures would look better if the comparison shots were the same size.

There seems to be slightly more info in the X-rated one - although that close up shot on the X-rated one (where AB shows blue) is odd to say the least - isn't that supposed to be a night shot?

They're not at the same width because one is anamorphic and the other one is not. ;)
But they have the same height (16x9 does not provides more lines).

AB is obviously cropped... (only opening credits are correctly framed).
On shot#4 you can notice compression isn't good at all on the AB !

Scene on shot#3 happens during daytime in the movie... and was shot during daytime. But I've read somewhere that Martino actually wanted it to look as if it was happening during night... AB is maybe more accurate here.

Well, the AB disc looks fine to me (I own it, and had no issues with it.) The extra here isn't significant at all. The X-rated looks a little clearer, but honestly, I didn't have any issues with the AB copy. I noticed no particular compression issues on the AB disc either, and I watched it on a big screen. Maybe I was just too engrossed in the film.

So all the discs are the same un-cut film right?
I'm late to this thread, and unfortunatly traded my AB copy away about a year ago, but have been thinking of getting it again. Then I heard of an X-rated and thought maybe AB's disc was cut, and x-rated meant an x-rated cut of the movie.

Xrated (Kult) is a German label which put out those movies that would get an X rating were they released back in the day (they do have some erotic titles too though).
I'm very glad that I bought the Xrated disc of Torso. It's becoming one of my favorite movies already.

I've been putting off the purchase of this film, the price is a bit steep and have been hoping to see No Shame releasing it, in lieu of their recent Sergio Martino series. But you guys got me really wanting this now...I'm a fan of Sergio Martino and even a bigger fan of the giallo in general. Must get this...now.

Since AB still has the R1 rights for this I guess NoShame won't release it yet.But they could release it for their Italian branch and throw in an English option!

I want to see Torso but Netflix doesn't have it, and neither does DDD, which means I'd have to get it from Amazon, where it is ridiculously overpriced at $27. I'm not paying that much for a movie I haven't seen before, even though I'm sure I'll love it. ;)

That artwork is awesome compared to the AB DVD. Too bad I'm satisfied with AB's release although I've wondered for a while what the Alan Young Pictures disc is like.
