This was a "re-make" of Wages of Fear correct?

Sorcerer is great 70's cinema. Love the Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

Just saw the trailer - at first it looked like some political action thriller but then it showed the truck on the creaky bridge (wow) and brief shots of crappy roads and jungle. Anyone who's not familiar with the film (or the original French version) would think it's some cheesy medieval fantasy flick based on the title. I really need to see this movie!

Horribly, horribly titled movie. Everything else about it is outstanding. It's been up for conversation recently, so a few weeks ago I watched my old laserdisc. Would love to see the 35mm print that is hitting NY and LA

One of the rare cases where I don't know whether I like the original or the remake more.

Yeah the title is awful. I avoided this for years cuz I thought it was gonna be something like Legend. And tangerine dream did scores for both? Yeah had me confused.

...Legend is a beautiful film. Shallow as hell, but one of the most visually stunning fantasy flicks ever made.

I see this film kicking around on VHS all of the time. I'd much rather have Jack Hill's Sorceress announced. I've been looking for that for a few years now to no avail. (Not that I've tried that hard, just the places around here).

A lot of people blamed the title in part for the film's box office failure,as people were expecting something supernatural from the director of THE EXORCIST.The studio even went so far as to advertise the film with the scroll "SORCERER is NOT a film about the supernatural....".Didn't help.

Fascinating film though, fantastic stunts and cinematography and a great Tangerine Dream score.I miss Roy Scheider, highly underrated actor !

Lol oh yeah. If it had been the way Scott had conceived it, the film would've been a fantasy epic. Too bad. What might have been.

Such great news! Add me to the camp who likes this more than WAGES OF FEAR (though no knock on that picture, it has its own strengths). Shame Scheider is no around to talk about the picture anymore, but Friedkin's always a great listen so I hope he still has a lot to say about this masterpiece.

Not only was the title bad, but just look at how this movie was marketed. Here's one of the one sheets they used:

Scott also prefers the Goldsmith soundtrack to the ethereal Tangerine Dream score, and has had his share of stinkers...I think I might side with the studio on this one; that movie was a mess.

That has to be one of the worst movie posters ever. Thinking of the opening "background" stories, I have to say I liked how Wages of Fear never gave you any. Something I think Friedkin's film should have stuck with.

As for the title, I think it's great and seems appropriate, but only after you've seen the picture. Tough title to market, and sadly the studio dropped the ball big time. Also, this was the year of Star Wars. So even with another title this one would have been a hard sell in the summer of '77.

I will be happy to upgrade from the ancient full frame DVD.
