Wow, big difference in BluRay.com and DVDTalk's estimation and opinion of Hell House as a film. I always found DVDTalk more reliable, so I will stick with my intention to buy it on Tuesday in spite of never having seen it.

I already have Without Warning, but they currently have Legend Of Hell House for $12.99. I used the code on that, along with Hell Of The Living Dead / Rats: Night Of Terror for $25.52 shipped.

Oh, Junk! I forgot about Hell Dead/Rats. I love those flicks. RATS had the ending that tripe called The Mist should have.

After watching Motel Hell for the first time just now, I was expecting...more. It wasn't bad exactly, just kind of aimless and uninteresting. Why do people like it so much?

I'm with you on that one. Never really cared for it, nor understood all the excitement. There's so much better horror from that era. Maybe it's hard for me to take Bulla Ballbricker seriously. I'm not a huge comedy horror fan either.

I've never been much a fan of Motel Hell either; it has some good imagery but is really hit/miss. I'm not sure Motel Hell was seen as top tier horror until a more recent revival with the high definition releases and even then I suspect it's just fondly discussed by people hoping for some retro gem.

I adore Motel Hell. It's a pretty depraved movie, but at the same time, the way it's presented is so quaint and inoffensive. Reminds me a bit of Spider Baby in that way, and I love that.

I also find it incredibly atmospheric in a way I've never seen before and likely never will again. Right from that opening scene, with Rory Calhoun on the porch at night, with that score, and the copyright showing up under the Motel Hello sign, it's all very evocative. The movie is total comfort food for me.

Nostalgia for me, basically. It used to run on The Movie Channel all of the time back in the mid-late 80s. That's where I was introduced to a lot of horror films.

I'm with you Dave. I've given Motel Hell three viewings in 10 years and still haven't come away much of a fan.

Always find it quite boring, gave it a couple of attempts, but never clicked with me.

So during Shout's October sale I picked up Motel Hell. It said it came with the poster so when it arrived sans poster I figured they didn't have any left. A week or so later I read on another site someone mention this same scenario and another member informs them to contact Shout. So he did and they said they'll send one out. I figured I might as well give it a go so I contacted them Tuesday and they got right back to me saying I should expect one in 1-2 weeks. It arrived today. Shout, you are awesome!

I didn't really know where to put this...maybe we need a "show your Shout! love " thread.

2 years later, i finally got around to watching Phantom of the Paradise for the first time. I won't go so far as to say I hated it, but I sure didn't find it very entertaining. aside maybe from Jessica Harper's painfully embarrassing dance interlude where she prances across the stage pumping her fists in the air. Yeeeeesh. It's funny, going over the comments here from when these discs were first released...I can easily see myself watching the much maligned Without Warning a dozen times before I would have any interest in checking out Phantom of the Paradise again.
