Coming soon from Grindhouse Releasing!: http://grindhousereleasing.com/?p=841 "The Most VIOLENT Movie Ever Made – Starring Godfather Of Gore Lucio Fulci! HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Grindhouse Releasing has set a July 12 street date for the new deluxe 3-disc Blu-ray edition of Lucio Fulci’s nightmare classic CAT IN THE BRAIN. The movie will be touring theaters all over the U.S. this summer, starting June 2. CAT IN THE BRAIN is a psychological masterpiece in the tradition of such cinematic classics as PSYCHO, STRAIT-JACKET, ERASERHEAD and Fellini’s 8 1/2. Acclaimed Italian horror maestro Lucio Fulci, director of ZOMBIE and THE BEYOND, stars in this blood-soaked epic as a director being driven insane by his own movies. Fulci is thrust into an ultra-violent nightmare of death and depravity where murder and madness consume his sanity in a vortex of violence. “CAT IN THE BRAIN is my favorite Fulci movie,” says Grindhouse Releasing co-founder Bob Murawski. “How could it not be? It’s wall-to-wall gore and stars Lucio Fulci playing himself. It delivers on all levels.” As with Grindhouse Releasing’s #1 best-selling smash PIECES, the new Blu-ray release of CAT IN THE BRAIN will be issued in two versions: the standard release, and a special edition for collectors limited to 3,000 copies. The limited version of the CAT IN THE BRAIN Blu-ray includes a glow-in-the-dark slipcover and an original portrait of Lucio Fulci created especially for this release. Grindhouse Releasing advises all customers who want to be guaranteed a copy of the limited edition to pre-order from Diabolik DVD, as Diabolik customers will get first priority and will receive the set early. Supplies are not expected to last long — if you do not pre-order from Diabolik DVD, there is no guarantee of receiving one of the limited collector’s copies. As an additional exclusive, Diabolik DVD is offering a special bundle that includes the CAT IN THE BRAIN Blu-ray and the official Lucio Fulci bobblehead from Cult Colletibles. This offer is limited to 500 copies, as these are the last of the numbered Lucio Fulci “Weird Wobbler” bobbleheads – when they’re gone, they’re gone! CAT IN THE BRAIN Blu-ray specs: – Hi-definition digital restoration of the original UNCENSORED DIRECTOR’S CUT – Presented with English and original Italian language soundtracks – In-depth interviews with director Lucio Fulci and cult superstar Brett Halsey (REVENGE OF THE CREATURE, RETURN OF THE FLY, THE GODFATHER 3) – New interviews with composer Fabio Frizzi, screenwriter Antonio Tentori, cinematographer Sandro Grossi and poster artist Enzo Sciotti – Lucio Fulci’s heroic appearance at the 1996 NYC Fangoria Weekend of Horrors – Original Italian theatrical trailer & gallery of stills and poster art – Liner notes by Antonella Fulci, David J. Cool, I went ahead and pre-ordered it from Diabolik. I would expect the entire "limited" thing will be just like the Pieces situation was, and it's best to get the order in early. Truthfully, it's not the greatest movie... even by Fulci standards, but it sounds like it'll be a superb release from Grindhouse.
Ah what the fuck...I grabbed the "wobbler pack". I thought that was the "limited" version....it looks like both versions listed on Diabolik's site are the limited versions, just one comes with a Fulci bobble head, ....which I could do with or without really. Unrelated story: I had pre-ordered Pieces on Amazon a while back and finally opened it last weekend. The goddamn puzzle was in it to my surprise. So contrary to belief, Diabolik was not the only place that had the puzzle included.
I ordered the $40 Limited Edition without realizing both are the same. What am I gonna do with a bobblehead - already have enough junk on my shelves, including that stupid Independence Day plastic toy. Diabolik should relax their no backtracking on preorders policy.
Probably just email them and say you made an honest mistake... it's really the same pre-order item after all, just with the already existing bobblehead.
This is one of my least favorite Fulci's but excited to revisit nonetheless. With a bobble head, of course.
I ordered from amazon too and also got the puzzle. I gave it to a friend of mine who is a little unhinged, cant risk that puzzle getting mixed up with my 3 year old sons! Lol Never seen cat in the brain, may blind buy this and go to the boston screening.
what a shit film.....doubt I'll ever want to revisit this, but if I do, the Grindhouse DVD will be fine. I'll pass.......but those who don't, enjoy that bobble head
I'd be hard pressed to say who exactly that bobble head is suppose to look like. So I can easily pass on that. Now if they had a cat in a skull with a bobbling tail I'd snatch that right the fuck up! As it is I've got the rad looking laser disc with the poster of the same design so I'm all set for Cat in the Brain trinkets. I'll take my chances on the discount market, but I sure as hell won't be ordering from FamilyVideo.com again. I don't think they understand what the concept of pre-orders even means based on my attempts to pre-order Pieces and Bride of Re-Animator from them.
Definitely picking this up. Would like to see a BD for Fulci's Touch of Death which is the movie that Cat in the Brain borrows most of its scenes from. It's one of my favorite later-era Fulci films, mixing some pretty funny dark humor with his trademark gore sequences. I think I remember Shriek Show saying they had difficulty locating a good source print for their DVD release some years ago. I have the import fom EC Entertainment and it doesn't look so great. Hopefully one of our favorite labels can secure the negative for a future release.
Yup, they were kind enough to swap my preorder for the bobblehead-less version - no problem. These guys are great
Arrived today... Another good looking package and the glow in the dark slipcase with its "hidden message" is a nice touch.
Update: The movie really worked for me this time around. I didn't love it the first time I saw it, I think I had a euro DVD when I saw it first. Originally, I watched it at the end of a long run of watching classic Fulci. It felt slow and indulgent. This time I appreciated the little homages to his career and the subtext a lot more. It's not perfect by any stretch but I appreciate the attempt at self-commentary. Don't expect lots in terms of PQ but I'd guess it the source material(s).
