Don't have one for sale, but an option that few people know about are external AC-3 decoders.

These are self-contained units (about the size of a regular receiver, so if space is an issue, you may have problems) that take in a RF signal, and output all 6 channels. You only need a receiver that has the 6-channel inputs.

I have a Yamaha DDP-1 that I've used for 7 years and it's been great. A friend of mine has a Sony SDP-800.

You can often find them on E-bay for less than $100, and since most LDers are just looking for a straight Demodulator, they are not aware of the decoders.

Yeah, I bought one about six years ago from eBay. My LD player didn't output DTS (and I had no DTS LD's to speak of anyway) but it was sure nice to be able to finally take advantage of the 5.1 on some of those babies, especially the films I didn't bother to upgrade on DVD like FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, THE ROCK, THE LOST WORLD, and NIXON to name a few. Don't regret that purchase (which was about $250 as I recall) even though I don't have too many LD's of the AC-3 variety.

The Yammy DDP-1 and Sony SDP-E800 are the only two I know of, although I'm sure there are a couple more. I think Denon made one.

A quick check on E-bay sees 1 Yamaha for sale, and FOUR Sonys. All at less than $100. It's not difficult at all to get into AC-3 Laserdisc.

oh, I've got a Kenwood RF Demodulator but I was thinking about getting one of these as a nice backup.

its funny that I've been into LD since around 1995 and I never knew about this as an option. I guess its true when they say you learn something new every day.

Love my Onkyo TX-DS989v2 w integrated AC-3. Also own the Onkyo ED-901 outboard processor which is mothballed at the moment.

My other Onkyos are the TX-DS828THX and TX-DS919 which require the use of an outboard processor like the above mentioned ED-901

I just bought a Sony SDP-EP9ES which sadly didn't come with a remote. I know I can control everything by the front of the unit but would it be worth trying to find a remote for it?

I wouldn't...the Yamaha actually doesn't even come with a remote, so I'm used to operating it without one. Calibrating it was a pain without a remote, though.

When I was using the DDP-1 for both DVD and LD decoding, it meant getting up to switch the input selector. But since I was getting up to change formats anyway, it was no biggie.

Now that I'm only using the DDP-1 for LD (I have a Dolby Digital receiver), it's kind of a "set it and forget it" thing.

thanks for the reply. I am definately going to skip the remote since I priced it at a few special order places and was looking at around 70.00 shipped for one. no way am I paying that.
