A Tale of Two Sisters really pissed me off, so it's hard for me to be fair but technically, it's at least an okay movie. The pure definition of overrated - this is not among the top 20 films of any genre - but still okay.

And I also have to throw House of 1,000 Corpses a bone as it's easily the most tolerable Rob Zombie film I've seen yet. It really feels like 2001, it shouldn't be counted as '03 (another problem with using IMDb as a source for this).

I've heard some interesting things about Dead End, which is on Netflix: Watch Instant but I haven't watched it yet- I'm afraid it'll be fullscreen.

After that, this year sums up definitively why the millennium itself is the worst time in the genre's history.

I neglected to report my selections here, but the only one I really like is

    - Undead.

    Also voted for

    - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (I liked this a lot the first few times I saw it, but tonally it has not aged well - it just seems boring now)

The last three I have only seen once, but remember at least enjoying at the time...
    - High Tension (Really only interesting in how it's such a blatant rip-off of a Dean (R.) Koontz book, Intensity.)
    - Final Destination 2
    - Beyond Re-Animator

That's just your opinion. I personally fucking hated Haute tension

I could easily say the same thing about you when you posted "Terrible year" in another of these threads.

I know many hate the ending of Haute Tension but how could anyone hate the entire film. Come on you have to admit '95 was weak.

I fucking hated it, end of story. The film had good cinematography, but that's all I'll give in its favor.

You know it's a shitty year when you're forced to pick a Rob Zombie movie...

The movie dies the minute the girls show up. They are airheads. I watched the full-length, uncut, French version in French with English subtitles and there isn't a single thing to like about these characters. They are idiots. Somehow, we're supposed to keep watching this movie with these stupid girls. While waiting for the film to tell me why, we see one watch the other shower and then go masturbate. This is childish self-service by a bad filmmaker. And I'm still waiting for that reason we're watching this film. Because it might not matter how pointlessly stupid the characters are except the film is set very starkly, trying to get you to pay attention and I detected no real style, no visual flair, no great atmosphere, no great music. Which means Aja is playing it straight so he can call it a mindfuck when it's over and a thriller while it's going. Then we watch a guy come in and start killing a bunch of people we don't know while the camera shakes and we keep cutting to the butch lesbian who isn't fooling anyone jumping around like she's doing the worst exercise routine on the planet in another room. If there was any tension during this sequence, it was killed by the bad acting. And the unbelievably clich├ęd look of the killer. And the lack of giving a single fuck about anything.

You cannot just set-up a stark look and expect people to sit still and take it seriously when you put nothing into it. But a little gore. I am frankly flabbergasted so many people thought it wasn't crap.

    Bordello of Blood was better.

I could conclude a lot of things. (Maybe you saw them only once. Maybe it's been a decade since you revisited them. Maybe you're more forgiving of lame special effects than I am.)

But Bordello of Blood is still better.
