The Shining, obviously.
This was kind of hard, since the haunted house subgenre is a fave of mine.
I say Poltergeist, even though it's not really a proper haunted house film. It is still by far my favorite film of the ones listed. I'll never get enough of that film *cough*specialedition*cough*
As for the others, since I'm in the mood for writing ...
The Amityville Horror (1979): One of THE worst films I've ever bought. The dialogue is almost hilarious enough for me to consider keeping the disc. It's still under consideration.
Burnt Offerings (1976): haven't seen it ...
The Changeling (1980): I was never overly impressed with this film. I think it's good and it's definately got its brilliant moments. But somehow, it left me cold.
The Haunting (1963): This is arguably the best film on this list. My 2nd choice, after Poltergeist.
The Innocents (1961): haven't seen this one either ...
The Legend of Hell House (1973): Love it!
The Shining (1980): I have a love/hate relationship with this film. It's mostly love, buuut ... it's complicated.
Put Monster House on that list! I just watched it yesterday. It fucking rules!
Out of the list, Amityville Horror. Scared the crap outta me when I was a kid.
My personal fav is House By The Cemetary! An often underlooked Fulci classic!
I don't think Evil Dead should count. The house GOT possessed, but it didn't start out as a "haunted house" per se. Don't forget, the evil of the deadites went as far back as medieval times.
