The creature is not 16 by 9 but the time of you got to think it came out in the 50's. The transfer is good. Like all univeral early Horror nothing is widescreen but itstandard. Guess it would chop to much off. Worth picking it up.

I don't own all of my favorite Horror films on DVD, so I'll just list my top ten favorite Horror films. These are in no particular order, just my top ten at random.

    Phantasm
    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    The Shinning
    Halloween
    Evil Dead (trilogy)
    Night of the Living Dead
    A Nightmare on Elm Street
    Killer Klowns from Outer Space
    The Omen
    Waxwork

Okay at the risk of subjecting myself to a barrage of negative comments, here are some films I like that may or may not be popular.

    Event Horizon
    Poltergeist
    House
    Nightbreed
    The Nightmare Before Christmas
    The Lost Boys
    The Gate
    In the Mouth of Madness
    Jeepers Creepers (1/3 of it)
    Maximum Overdrive
The Blair Witch Project (certain scenes)
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (some visuals)
    Candyman
    Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh
    Lord of Illusions

I could go on with ridiculous 80s films that have no redeeming qualities other than I like them for nostalgic reasons, but I won't subject you all to that.

    Where else?

I live in Japan, so it was really easy to get. :) It has a fair amount of behind-the-scenes extras, but no English subtitles.

Speaking of Ring 0, I was watching a special on TV here called "USO" a month or so back. It's a program like Unsolved Mysteries that focuses on the supernatural more than other kinds of mysteries. They did a short feature on "Ring 0" and showed a scene from the movie where supposedly there is a shadowy figure behind the actress that played Sadako (Yukie Nakama) just as she imagines she sees her mother when the Carriesque stuff starts happening on the stage. It's really brief and the Japanese studio audience was shocked but I thought, what the hell, that could be anybody, or anybody's shadow, and it's probably Yukie's. Or a cardboard cutout of Ted Danson. But I haven't watched the movie since to see the full scene.

(Later in the program there was one particular "ghost photo" taken at an elementary school that was really creepy. A lot of the photos in these programs are obvious double exposures - but that one was unnerving. Reminded me of the photo from Diabolique. Come to think of it, Criterion's Diabolique should have been on my list...)

Ten of my most precious horror DVDs at the moment are:

Halloween LE (Though not really limited as I bought it from the UK where AB's 2-disc edition doesn't seem to be limited)

    Nightmare on Elm Street Collection

    Hellraiser/Hellraiser 2: Hellbound LE

Suspiria LE (Even though I haven't seen it yet it better be pretty darn precious 'cause it cost me so much)

    The Mario Bava Box Set

Night of the Living Dead (Elite)

    The Thing

and The LE Dario Argento Collection Volume 1-3

Hey Maupin, where did you get that little avatar guy? Where is he from? Looks like a guy from some old Atari game or something.

By the way, that Ted Danson cardboard cut-out thing had me laughing.

    Top Hat Willy

My avatar on the left is from an Amiga freeware game called "Top Hat Willy." It's an insanely difficult platform game based on "Jet Set Willy" (anyone remember that game?) As far as I know, I'm the only person in the world to have completed the game... and I did it twice. I have a web page devoted to the game. It's kind of a joke just to do something with the web space I was given with my email account, but I really do like the game.

To keep this relatively on topic, I also have a short page of Japanese horror movie reviews on the site. They're movies I saw in the theatre here. I'm thinking about adding DVD reviews but I don't know if it's worth the time... I do own quite a few Japanese horror DVDs, however. (Most aren't worth their cost.)

I figured someone on this board would get the Ted Danson joke. :)
