I gotta agree with mcchrist there. Even though I think it's great how the advent of DVD has made it that much more possible to see movies that were once hard to come by, it was a bit more exciting to get that order from Midnight Video or come across a notorious movie on a dealer's table at a convention.

Hah hah! Yeah, I liked and hated that feeling. I had the door locked and headphones on watching some seedy horror film (no, not a seedy porn :D) My dad needed to get in my room and when he found the door locked he started banging to get in. I had to turn the TV and VCR off so he wouldn't ask what I was watching. I betcha he thought I was jerking off. Oh well, it's a shame I had to go through all that shit just to watch a sick horror movie.

hah, you guys are lucky you had TV & VCR in your room! the only one we had in our house when i was growing up was downstairs in the living room, so i had to wait until late at night when everyone finally went to bed to watch my stuff

I agree with MCChrist it was cool discovering some of these films for the first time, but the magic hasnt been lost to me at all

Ah I currently have that problem. I have all my shit in my room so that's no biggie, but my door doesn't really close well and people are always walking around. Watching NEKROMANTIK (or, trying to rather) was the most stop-and-go experience I've ever had trying to watch a movie. First someone would come upstairs, then the disc would lock up, etc. etc. My dad actually came in while I was watching EXORCISM a few weeks ago. Now that was interesting...

  I can totally relate. My bedroom door use to not have a lock on it and if I heard someone walking down the hallway I would have to shut it off real quick incase they decided to come in my room. Really nasty movies like Nekromantik I would have to sit with one finger on the stop button the whole movie.
I remember my dad walked in when I was watching Gruesome Twosome and he gave me pure hell about it. I wasn't even that concerned about keeping it concealed from anyone. I had no idea he would make such a big deal about it.

Watched the original Nekromantik at the Black Sunday 2 festival in the little town of Ashton in the UK (around 1990). Jorg Buttgereit had brought a 16mm copy over from Germany but:

    a) It was b&w
    b) It had no subtitles

There were problems with the film as the projector was not 100% compatible. Everybody kept thinking we were being raided for showing forbidden films...

My father walked in to the cinema and caught the end (it was the final film of the festival and about 2/3 of the audience had left, there was no one on the door, etc.)....

    Embarrasement city......

(Incidentally, Hot Love kicked off the festival. Superb!)

Watched the sequel last night. Beautiful quality DVD. Will post mini-review when I'm not so tired.......:sleepy:

Yeah. I totally cherish my autographed and numbered version of Nekromantik. Pardon my ignorance, but what is Hot Love. Is it that good?

Hot Love is one of Jorg's short films. I'm sure I read somewhere that it was going to be included on one of his DVDs so. hopefully, it'll be on Der Todesking. As I already have the UK VHS (limited to 500), I'm hoping the DVD will be packed with extras as it's a heavy movie and not really repeat viewing material (unless you like feeling depressed).

Hot Love is classic Buttgereit. Low, low budget, love story theme, etc. As always, it delivers. And it stars Buttgereit himself and Daktari Lorenz (Nekromantik).

Okay, I'm going to get either Nekromantic 1 or 2 and see if I like it or not. Should I get 1 or 2?

Get part 1 first. It's getting harder to come by. If you like it, go for 2. If you have the money, I'd go for both. Part 2 is limited, so you don't want to pay inflated prices later.

I ordered Nekromantik 2 from DeepDiscountDVD but they said they were out of stock. Think they'll get more in soon or never have it in stock again?

Also I went ahead and ordered the first one as well with the knowledge that once it goes out of print it will sell for an absurd amount.

Jorg Buttgereit and Bruce LaBruce films could do for a quite charming double bill.
