I'm really excited about this one, although I've been so-so on Adam's work so far. It kind of reminds me of the Strangers, but looks like it has more potential.

Likewise. From the new trailer it looks much better constructed than his previous work, and a step in the right direction.

    Looks okey.
I hope it´s dark and brutal, and not just another one of those "run of the mill" shot on digital/direct to video slashers. It looks like it´s not gonna be too much of that annoying shaky cam footage going on (typical of low budget movies today) as the cinematography seems to be pretty stable.

Look forward to checking it out, but I'm not sure about the meow mask.

Saw this at TIFF. It is remarkable. Really fun. That's all I'm saying.

Fun? I thought the whole point of these types of movies was to accurately portray the horrible feeling of being stalked, hunted, chased, and viciously murdered.

I assume the theme of the animal-faced killer has to do with turning the table on rich people who hunt animals for sport. Handled right, I suppose that could work. But, you know what I'm still waiting for... a horror film where both halves are like Wolf Creek's first half. Seeing everything so overtly all the time is the death of the genre's potency. This isn't even a slasher, which would be a nice change of pace anyway since nobody liked the Prom Night remake and... didn't the killer take someone hostage at the end? Or was that the Friday the 13th remake (too)?

It's redundant and boring to always watch people running in groups, barricading themselves in rooms or hiding in tight spaces to escape the killer while they get closer. Not to mention the killer is an ultra-mastermind who's 15 steps ahead of everyone at all times. What exactly is the chance that is likely to happen to anyone? At least the movie could look like a dream if they're going to continue mining the most unrealistic storyline in the genre right now.

I saw this at Fantastic Fest in 2011. I have to agree with you. YOU'RE NEXT is a fun ride and worth the price of admission.

Apparently there was a hush-hush screening of this at Comic-Con last week that I did not know about. I only found out about it when I went to a panel with Adam Wingard the next day (they really should have had the screening AFTER the panel and given out passes to the attendees). There were writers from Bloody Disgusting, Rotten Tomatoes, Shock Till you Drop, and some other sites on the panel as well. They all praised the hell out of You're Next, but of course, the director and writer were sitting 3 seats away so it's hard to say if that was an honest opinion.

Just saw it again at an advanced screening. I still enjoyed it and it appears the rest of the audience did also!

Sorry, DVDfanatic, I did not notice your post until now. No, it is not an animal rights thing in any way. There are some actual, intended funny moments/dialogue. The audience did laugh in unison, so I was not being the weird creepy guy laughing at serious scenes.

DVDfanatic, have you seen the movie yet?

Honestly this movie was awesome. It was scary and absolutely hilarious, but not in a bad way. It was actually tense and pretty suspenseful, but the family was just so realistically portrayed that they were surprisingly really funny. The twist was really different and I didn't see it coming, the heroine kicks some serious ass too... The score felt so 80s, I felt like I was watching a slasher from then. Easily the most fun I've had watching a horror movie at the movie theatre in a while.

Soooo much fun! Scary, funny, bloody, surprising - the audience I saw it with all had a blast. The heroine is amazing and does everything you want a final girl to do in these movies.

Aside: Quentin Tarantino was in our theater and had a big smile on his face as he walked out.

I'm glad to see everyone else got the humour, we were laughing quite a bit. Very entertaining flick.

Also, anyone else love the Straw Dogs "boiling oil" gag as much as I did?
